  1. This is helpful, thanks for sharing! :0) And fairplay to CRT for listening to peoples concerns and responding in plain english.
  2. Thanks for the help Chaps. EPDM Convoluted Hose would be the stuff ! Cheers Bill
  3. They do curve around and I'd keep them like that or I will be tripping over them / restricting access.
  4. Not sure of the correct term for the coolant hoses that run from the engine to the skin tank. They are I am sure the original, 20 yr old, items and do look like gas mask piping :0) About 3'6" long. Gone rather hard with age and I have a tiny drip from where one meets the skin tank, tried a fresh jubilee clip but to no avail though, and we all know what tiny drips turn into eventually... Is this new fangled silicone hose any use at this long length ? Cheers Bill
  5. Thank you, I appreciate that comment, I am determined to spend the next 20 years working towards a mooring of my own with riparian rights so they can't stop my fun though! Cheers Bill
  6. Quite so, but which of the national boaters organisations are prepared to stick their heads above the parapet? They (the Trust) monitor the output of this forum I am very sure of that. Paranoid, me, nah. Doesn't mean they're not after me though...
  7. Agreed. At least there are some folk who have their eyes open & realise that the malaise 'of it won't affect me' is dangerous. When they lose the Govt funding in a few years time, what happens then? "Oh, we'll look after the Boaters, they are a good source of income" I think not ! Much easier and cheaper to maintain a linear 'Nature Reserve' surely? I had wanted a Narrowboat for 28 years, 2 years into owning one they start moving the bloody goalposts with rapid succession and it totally sucks! Rant over Cheers Bill
  8. So you think they WILL log boats that are on their HM ? I do hope so. I agree that they shouldn't be alienating a very large section of Leisure Boaters by making up the rules as they go! Cheers Bill
  9. Yes this is what I meant in post 23. Let's assume I am logged on the 1st of the month ( a Saturday) at favourite spot. On the 2nd I move back to HM. Two weeks later I return to favourite spot from HM (having not moved from HM which has NOT been logged ) On the 15th (a Sunday) I am logged, What is there to say in my defence? Nothing, the evidence that they have on their computer suggests I am 'Ghost Mooring'. Honest & well intentioned I might be, I DON'T want to end up in court thanks.
  10. Yes this was what I was driving at, maybe not well put in my OP. If Home Mooring and 'Favourite Spot' are in the same 'place'/length then I am not cruising surely? I did check the places map (when it was available) and this is the case. So on Saturday morning I need to go as far as the next 'place' from my home mooring which was defined as Claydon Top Lock. I would then have to carry on further to wind of course. Fair enough I hear you cry, use you boat... that's what it's for. So a change in the way we use our boat is forced upon us despite our good intentions (paying for a genuine HM). Thanks Alan, that is what I mean. Cheers Bill
  11. So, we have a home mooring. On the offside, private land. We are both in our late 40's and work full time, don't liveaboard. We get to the boat every two or three weeks for a night or two. A couple of times a year we do a week long trip. Sometimes we have a long weekend and cruise for that locally. Can't get far in 3 days there & back again! Now: Often we leave the mooring and go up to the next winding hole, moor for the night on a non VM towpath, come back to the home mooring the next day. This is in rural Northamptonshire/Oxfordshire and would be within the same 'place' i.e. Parish. I am going to fall foul of the new regs with this pattern aren't I? It's a bit wrong that we pay nearly £800 per year to CRT to live in fear isn't it? Plus over £400 a quarter for a mooring to keep the boat, legally. What's going on? Cheers Bill
  12. So this sounds like they ARE happy with JUST the number surely?
  13. Ahhh! Crystal! Still on the bright side the little fella was already ashore & you didn't pay another £400 odd for a survey ! So much respect for you keeping an old boat going. Nice. P.S. Having mastered the starting of the mighty Kelvin on Aldebaran I do hope I get the chance to spin up the Scania (sic) ! Cheers!
  14. Funnily enough the thought of how do you get out?, had crossed the minds of me and the lovely Jayne. We bought a potholing ladder, long enough to reach the bottom of a lock. Takes no space at all (rolled up) next to the back step. Cheers Bill
  15. Hey Mike, So forgive me if I didn't trawl the thread thoroughly, but was it the install of new engine beds that exposed Reg's thin 'arse'? Cheers Bill
  16. In the same price bracket as the Hyundai is the Briggs & Stratton P2000. I like mine a lot. It has a power saving mode switch so instead of running flat out all the time it ups the throttle when the load increases, making it very economical.and quieter. It is only 1600watts constant rating though. 12v output is only 5amps. Does me fine.
  17. Thanks for the replies folks, much appreciated, especially first hand knowledge. Cheers Bill
  18. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/161547317422?_trksid=p2055119.m1438.l2649&ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT Does the panel think these are naff or nice? I would get our BWB number put on them. Our boat is rather industrial looking btw. ( No connection to seller )
  19. Yes I had seen the DIY kits. Thanks for this, shall avoid them. Cellotex/aerosols and tape it is then. Cheers Bill
  20. Many thanks again for the advice chaps !
  21. So let's see. Is it possible to spray foam the all the steel myself instead of cellotex/rockwool ? How would I do that? I have a compressor and a genny. That would seal the steel from the lining completely no? Do I Batten it first then spray ? Obviously.. Do boats with spray foam have an air gap ? I think so. Cheers Bill
  22. Thanks again, I only want it less damp, cold, dark. Tangents eh?
  23. So I went and did some research, and; Celotex FR5000 - Product Description Celotex FR5000, is a new revolutionary fire resistant PIR insulation board specifically aimed at pitched roof and wall applications requiring Class O fire performance FR5000 is the most cost effective thermally efficient product offering Class O fire performance throughout the entire product – not just the external foam core. FR5000 comprises a rigid polyisocyanurate foam core with low emissivity, textured aluminium foil facings on both sides. FR5000 has zero ozone depletion potential (zero ODP). Around £8 per sq metre. I see the point about the woodwork though.
  24. Many thanks for all the sage advice folks ! Cheers Bill
