  2. Just seen the report of a narrowboat sinking in the top lock of the Johnsons Hillock flight. It seems all the crew are OK.
  3. Its all part of the fun Mate, have a sweep with the crew as which ones work. Its been like that up here for 30 years.
  4. Bowten, I had you down as a person who likes new ideas, forward thinking and all that. Would you care to tell us about the virtues of the style of bow on your boat?
  5. Until its tried Mate, nobody will know if it works or not. 1.5 Leylands were van derived by the way, they knocked out quite a few marine versions IIRC.
  6. My boat has a New Holland derived engine. New Holland=Ford=Iveco=Italian. Its never missed a beat. When did Kubota/Isuzu/Mitzys become recognised boat engines?

  8. When its peeing down up here it helps to take a lockfull out of a short pound in front of you. Set the next lock up before you drop the one youre in. You were lucky there not to flood the adjoining buildings.
  9. The photo of the lady shown above was taken in the town square in Ypres, another place to have somebody to take a look?
  10. How long before they start checking licenses I wonder?
  11. I'll volunteer if I get a reduction in the £800 I paid to use the canals!
  12. The lockie from Greenberfield locks which as you know is at the eastern end of the L&L summit and where the best feed to the said summit enters is now not to be seen anywhere the locks. Along with several other fully experienced lockies (including Barry from Bingley) is now part of a "Rapid response Team" painting and decorating woodwork between Leeds and God knows where. A sorry stae of affairs IMHO, who are these volunteers? Who trains them? What happens up here when the feed needs sorting? I'm very wary of volunteers....they can walk away if things go wrong. They wont be doing locks for me.
  13. A few photos inside Viktoria when she was owned by Roger Lorenz and was used to build my boat Jack. 1990. Bugger, wrong way up....Lean to the left to see the hold of Victoria, Banstead alongside and (I think) Swallow, ex Cowburn and Cowper. Happy Days.

  15. Nige! Good to see you back into the boating frame of mind. We've had eight years on Travis but now its come to an end sadly. Wens got over cancer but she wont be fit to do locks etc anymore. So we've bought a little place in Salterforth and Travis is on Apolloduck.

If you need a hand sailing up here let me know, always good to get on the water.

    Regards, Andy.

    Crikey!

Another first...a thread shut down. Its turned into quite a day
  17. I know that Martin, it just makes me feel better. I remember when a new chap came on here asking for advice (or whatever) and obviously wasn't of the highest intellect, just very enthusiastic. He was asked by a regular if English was his first language. Das Kapitan could fall into the same as this poor guy. I dunno.
  18. Thank you for nailing your colours to y'mast. Another for the ignore list. Knobhead.
  19. So if its mental health problems its OK to take the piss?
  20. Well it took a while, my first deletion for a few years...I just mentioned about a guy who may have health problems being called a knobhead and the whole thread has disapeared! We musn't upset the regulars must we.
