  5. Thanks for the comments - and bow pictures? Anyone know what engine fitting is like, time or costs even. Its a dutch steel cruiser btw. It could be a point to talk the price down.
  6. while shopping for boats I have looked at some boats, one is steel and has a 2L Fiat engine which has hardly been used much and needs some servicing. I'm no expert in boats but I dont associate Fiat with boats or marine engines? anyone know what it might be and reliability etc Also same boat has had bow thrusters installed by previous owners. Present owners have never used them or hardly moved boat in fact for about 6 years. What problems can I expect after so long unused? gav
  7. Being new to this boating malarkey I've read one must check the person selling the boat actually owns the boat and that there are no outstanding loans secured on the boat itself. Erm, how does one go about checking these things exactly? Thanks G
  8. Hi. While I'm looking at boats, when it comes to buying one are there any agreements already existing that are fair to both parties? If anyone can post the wording here or a link to a web source I'd appreciate it. Thanks Gav
  9. Might not be an issue any more with this boat for various reasons but there is another boat, same make - different model, nearby I am looking at soon so might well get back to you on that Thanks Gavin
  10. Thanks for the full reply, It is a Jack Powles cruiser. Located near Kingston on Thames. Sounds like problems in store somewhere.
  11. Hi all Am looking at some boats as a live-aboard. One I like the size and internal layout but the exterior is very 'weathered' looking. I don't want to dismiss a good boat on what could be superficial cosmetic looks but also dont want a big problem in store later on. boat was a broads cruiser originally from nineteen seventy something At some point the deck upwards has been painted with something and its all flaking off and brittle , what would be needed doing to it? can one strip paint off to the original gel coat or would I need to paint over it and with what? Also the chimney has at some point leaked coal tar down it and over the cabin area, looks like a giant unsightly rust streak. can this be painted over? - and with what and how? would it have damaged the fibreglass in any way? Thanks Gav
