  1. Hi, Our next trip will be from Hanham Lock on the Avon at Bristol going east towards and up the K & A. Anyone have any experience of the River part, ie the locks, navigation et al?. Any advice welcome! Neil
  2. Ditto Comments above. Been reading Sue blog for over a year now and they are fine people.... without a gear box. Back in your closet matey!
  3. If that is Bones's idea then a quiet word with the farmer could see a skip lorry use the farmer tracks (easily seen from Google Earth). The access doesnt seem to bad this way and as its summer no muck would be churned over.....
  4. What about a BW work boat? or 'Man and Van waste removal.....just bring a wheel barrow. Wasnt aware you had some brick walls built on your boat!!!?!?!!?!?!?!?.
  5. I think if ever there is a port/topic of the year...then this is it *green eye'd monster lurking*!!
  6. We had a widebeam on the K & A last year and even moving slowly when not in gear caused many boats to shift... I just had to end up repeating myself that it moves a lot of water, ie down as we approach and up when we're past. Nothing we could do. In the end I just started smiling and waving......... Alan I do agree with pins being fully grounded and the ropes at the bottom and really tight. We did this on the Stratford this year but the ground was soooo soft it kept pulling out even with boats going slowly. End result was either tied to a tree (for safety) or move........
  7. Can you tell me where 'Sunset Strip' is?. We did encounter some fun last year, but not sure if this is the same place!?
  8. Bugger!!!! Been waiting for 4 years for an ivite like this and when one comes I am away in Cornwall!!!! ARSE!!
  9. Any hire company recomendations for this canal, or a one that branches onto it?
  10. swing bridges have been around for hundreds of years. There is now one high profile incident and we now need to adapt the use / running / opperation of them? Give over. Accidents happen irrespective of how. That's life - shame for the girl but she should not have been on it or near it. Leave the canals as they are, dangerous? Possibly depending on behavior and use. How many accidents in 300 years? Not to many I would guess.
  11. Its painful enough riding a bike with pants on, let alone taking them off!. Mind you, fair play to the guy if its your bags! Shame its not a busty blonde female!. (not Maffi is it?)

  21. Not hired but they hire out peoples boat, ie you buy a boat, AW will hire it for you. Most looked good that we saw, newly painted outsides, but can not vouch for inside. Enjoy the cross wind on the aquaduct!
  22. also expect to leave the yard at 4pm and have the boat back by 10am the next week. Only leaves you 6 cruising days.....and two very short days.
  23. Hi, I would say Wooten to Wilmcote is 1.5 hours. Day 1 Wilmcote to Stratford Basin is 6 hours (Min) Day 2 Stratford to Bidford is around 3 Hours Day 3 Bidford to Pershore 6 Hours Day 4 etc etc etc I would say it would not be relaxing as I would recommend a stop at Wilmcote (Mary Arden House Pub) and Stratford for a Day. Bidford is nice and so is Evesham. You never know what unexpected thnigs you'll find either. Lovely villages / pubs etc etc. Nothing worse than not being able to stop and take time. Also raining days come into play, busy locks, broken locks etc etc. I know the route well, drop me a PM if you need more info. Enjoy! Neil
  24. Mary P On Sunday we went from Wilmcote winding hole to Wooten. We had two green boats together moored........ and cruised together.
