  7. A combination of things were wrong the wiring for the signal to the rev counter was already in the loom connected to the alternator but not connected in the loom in two places the cable was folded back under the plastic covering I knew about one of the places so had only connected that one when I checked the wire with meter I realised there was a break, so then looked for it I used timleech's table to set it up,I did finaly see the table on the revcounter. Ive got an appointment at specsavers later Joe

  13. The tacho is a faria & has a selector switch on the back numbered 1to 6. I think the alternator is a lucas 127 .I believe ?, from what I have gleaned from the internet you divide the fingers by 2 to give the poles . Joe Def ordered as a diesel one and marked as such Joe
  14. Thanks for your help I must admit I had to measure the crankshaft pully by eye as it is behind a much larger pulley for the domestic alternator so wasnt so straight forward to see I will try to get back to the boat today .and will also phone faria today ,that is the tacho I am using Joe

  16. Thanks but that would make the final figure worse Joe
  17. I am hoping someone on here knows the answer .Are crankshaft pulleys usually larger than the alternator (mine is)the reason I am asking is I am trying to set up a new revcounter and the instruction say to measure crankshaft pulley and the alternator pulley ,divide crank by alternator & multiply the No of poles ,then set the switch on the back to that number . On my engine it works out at 80mm /50mm * 6 = between 9 & 10 it only goes upto 6, since most alternators are 6 pole this semms it would only work if the crankshaft pulley was smaller or the same size as the alternator thanks if I am doeing something wrong I would appreciate any helpful information Joe
