  4. 10mm shackles + 5m of 8mm chain + 25m of 14mm anchorplait, IIRC this is what Kobra recommend for the 10kg for this type of use. Also keeps the weight of the whole assembly down in case you need to get it in and out of the bow locker or lug it from one end of the boat to the other.

  7. Understood that they might be p*ssed off, but then they're probably also complaining about poor maintenance and stoppages and the increased license fees... CART don't have a magic money tree, they have to choose what to spend their (inadequate) income on, and boater showers are presumably low priority.

  9. Still not sure what you're trying to say -- that this the fault of "modern namby-pamby society" laws from 40 years ago? P.S. You were the one who brought up intruders... 😉
  10. The law covering this (Occupier's Liability Act) dates back to 1984, so it's hardly a recent "namby-pamby society" issue though, is it? https://www.protectingyourself.co.uk/using-barbed-wire-glass-intruder-prevention-methods.html Also: "The Criminal Justice Act 2003 provides some protection to householders. If a trespasser suffers an injury during the course of a crime, for which he is subsequently convicted and for which he could be sent to prison, he will only be able to sue the householder if he gets the court’s permission to do so. The court is unlikely to grant permission unless the householder had taken grossly excessive steps or had not been acting to defend himself, his family or his property from an offence."

  12. So are you objecting to the "namby-pamby" law which says you can use "reasonable force" to defend yourself or your property, where this is decided by a jury depending on the circumstances? Bearing in mind that "reasonable force" can include GBH or even killing an intruder or someone attacking you if you're in fear of your life? (see the second case you quoted) Does that mean you think that it's OK to use "unreasonable force" i.e. vigilantism? Or are you objecting to the fact that the cases came to court? Does that mean you think someone other than the courts (e.g. the police) should decide if somebody is guilty or innocent? I don't understand exactly what you're objecting to as being "namby-pamby", unless you prefer mob rule or vigilantism or "he was obviously guilty" -- do explain...
  13. I wasn't asking for your usual reaction of posting a big chunk of legalese, I was asking you for an actual example of "with this namby-pamby state, they can sue you" that had happened in real life as opposed to a rant worthy of the Daily Wail. And please don't bring up the tired old tropes of shooting burglars in the back...

  15. Mostly disagree... 😉 (they should be called "convectors")
  16. Except that most of the heat from domestic radiators gets into the room by convection (about 80%), not radiation (about 20%)... 😉 https://www.bestheating.com/info/how-does-a-radiator-heat-the-room/

  21. You been reading the Wail again? 😉 Go on, provide a real example of something like this happening, you *know* you want to...

  23. On a PC : Customiser (pop-up menu at top of window) ==> Enable snow effect
  24. I'd love to know why anyone would want to know that it's safe to drink from a pumpout tank... 😉
  25. Are you saying that SS tanks rust remarkably quickly from the inside because of condensation? Doesn't make sense...
