    Copper head gasket

Why not get some sheet copper and cut your own? You may have to anneal it before use but if you have the standard one to use as a pattern it shouldn't be difficult.

  5. Definitely a scam!! I got caught with something similar on eBay when selling a very expensive laptop. Had to 'send in the boys' in the end to frighten the guy into withdrawing his claim.

  10. Sorry if I got the number wrong. I live in Grimsby and the code is very similar (01472/01724). If I remember I had had a long day and my failing memory must have got the better of me. Anyway I'm glad they were able to help.
  11. Take a glass of water and half fill with water. Stand a nail in the glass as vertical as you can get it and then leave for a few days. The nail will rust at the water line because you need oxygen (air) and water to cause rust. (Basic primary school chemistry) Because the base plate is constantly under water it is highly unlikely to rust so blacking is not as important as it is on the sides, at the water line. Well that's the theory anyway.

  16. Firstly, unless your drill is sharpened properly it will always drill oversize because the centre is rarely if ever central! Secondly, at that size if you run the drill in and out a few times after breaking through you will usually enlarge the hole and make it oversize. Thirdly, if you start threading with the correct tap, ( a taper tap ), you will automatically open the hole to the correct size for the thread. Always finish off with a second tap or plug tap. Fourthly, always use cutting compound on the tap. If you haven't got the correct stuff then use a medium oil such as engine oil and keep applying as you tap. Fifthly, once the thread has started to cut, it's 270 deg clockwise to cut and 180 deg anticlockwise to break the swarf. Learnt all that as an apprentice nearly 50 years ago and I've never broken a tap yet! Hovrin
