  1. 25 microfarads capacitors fitted. Voltage down to 241v (was 265v with 30 microfarads). All looks well but still no joy with battery charger. When I switch it on all 5 orange lights flash on momentarily then the bulk light stays on but there is no charge registering on the Mastervolt MICC. Maybe it just packed in due to old age (15 years) by coincidence.........although there's obviously some life in it.
  2. Phew! Just tried blowing down the tubing (it's not fitted yet). Couldn't budge the spring loaded valve at the feed end, so don't think the header tank idea will work. I'll give it a try though.
  3. Just do a search under "Oakdale". There was an article on her on this forum a couple of months ago.
  4. Sounds like a good idea and would automatically top up when required if sufficient head is achieved. I'll give it a try. Thanks
  5. Sorry I meant I'm going to get some 18mmThe tubing between the top up caps is only 10mm and it's the black, ribbed plastic type. It's the end fitting that it's attached to, that's 18mm. I'm just going to get a short length of 18mm and push fit it on and reduce down to the smaller diameter of the hand pump.
  6. ]Well hanging the weight off the starboard bow would tend to make the stern steer to starboard I would have thought. Off the centre bow would keep it more in a straight line. No?
  7. No it has to be delivered under pressure. Does it work and are they Trojans?
  8. Thanks the Sterling is on my shopping list. Thanks for the extra info. I'll never understand the black art of battery charging so I'll just get the Sterling and let it do the hard work.
  9. Thanks. Yes just ordinary transparent tube. ID is 18mm. I'm sure I can rig up some piping to reduce from 18mm to the 12mm spout on the hand pump which is £4.95 on eBay. Slight improvement on £38 from USA!!!!! !!!!
  10. Yes but how does it affect the charging as far as the batteries are concerned?
  11. Just realized that the Hydrolink watering system needs a hand pump with a special connector to pressurize the system when watering. Wish Trojan had told me that when I ordered the kit! Anyone made their own ( it's just a oval rubber ball like for syphoning) but the attachment looks unusual, .
  12. Btw What's the difference between my alternator giving 150 amps at 14 volts and my battery charger giving 80 amps at 14.6 volts?
  13. I believe that's Raymond Lister on the side deck and his dad Eric ( later on the lockie at Thorne Lock, Stainforth & Keadby) leaning on the wheelhouse.
  14. I think there was a modern(ish) keel called Hazelwood.
  15. Took your advice and moved the shunt. Thanks
  16. Wouldn't that have been more effective if it had been hanging off the cleat nearer to the centre line of the boat?
  17. That's a useful diagram, thanks. Think I'll stick with the Sterling route.....all this talk of 3 phase bridge rectifiers is way beyond my comprehension I've already got the relay DURITE 0-727-33 12V 140A SPLIT CHARGE INTELLIGENT RELAY
  18. Thanks I'll look into that. At the moment the starter is charged just whenever I run the genny through a battery charger, but I have a relay that I'm going to wire into the system when I get around to it.
