  1. I eventually decided to buy an Evopower Genny and I am really really pleased with it. I always had problems starting the Honda suitcase one I had, but this has remote control start and key start as well as recoil and wheels and a handle to lug it about. It's really impressive for the dosh, and has a Hyundai engine, but is cheaper than the actual Hyundai generators.
  2. My roof is (well was) white and is that rough anti slip paint. It needs repainting as it is patchy (bits of rust showing through in 5/6 patches. What is the best way to do this? 70ft boat. Do I sand down just the rusty patchy bits or the whole lot. ((. The rest of it is ok but very dirty. Do I just prime/ undercoat those tatty bits bits then paint over the whole lot? Or do I have to get the whole roof down, undercoat then start again?
  3. I have another use for ecofans/sterling things other than temperature gauges. I have 2 rails that go across my roof near the fire. I aim the fan at any clothes I want to dry quickly and Bobs yer uncle. Works a treat.
  4. Just to say thank you for all the advice. I contacted peter Jeffs and he is helping me. Getting my head around it now. )))

  6. Just get one if these mobile wifi boxes. They are great. All the family can log in and I even take mine on the train and to work. Yes they are more expensive I think than home broadband but mine has never yet had no signal.
  7. I excitedly replaced all my halogens with cheap eBay LEDs. They flicker and one has emitted plastic stinky burning smoke and blown that particular circuit. I am throwing them all in the bin and buying from bedazzled. The last thing I need is a fire
  8. one of my cheap ebay LEDs just let off a load of smoke and the whole circuit died. Bit concerned that it could have caused a fire. I will certainly not be using cheap ebay bulbs again.
  9. ok thank you all. I have decided to go for up this time as I don't think it will be much more than 60mph. However I shall watch the very useful linky above for future storms and up to 100mph it will definitely come down. Mike the boilerman. I have seriously been thinking of upgrading to a widebeam (in the future) and I might even have a pram cover on it. tee hee
  10. surely they are for even distribution of heat rather than making anything hotter?? I noticed on my 40ft that the temp seemed lower but more even. But with the new 70ft and bigger fan, it definitely distributes and pushes heat to places that never saw much heat before (brr) and that is very useful when chilly in the back of the boat.
  11. Great thanks. 60mph winds according to that site, so not too bad.
  12. I pootle down the river with it down, then when back home, I put it up then drink wine in it, have a quick ciggy in it, play cards in it, join my animal friends in for tea, join my human friends in it for political and social discussions. I might even put my bed on it and sleep in it forever and ever and ever.
  13. I have always found that if you live your life according to what others think, you will be unhappy at all times. I am very happy and most especially with my pram cover. .
  14. Lol, know I should be hanging my head in shame, but... I LOVE my pram cover ) I proudly get stuck underneath it when putting it up and down. When driving it is down so thank goodness I do not have to suffer the disgrace of being seen with it. Phew!
  15. Well I have bought one. Managed to start it first time which I NEVER managed when I had the little Honda. So far very pleased.
  16. Lol, well I didn't actually look and count. 5 blades it is.
  17. Hmm, shall I risk it. I couldn't replace it really in reality. I thought pram covers were awful till I bought and lived on a boat with one. Now it's a must have. I love it. All that space, & you can stand up in it. Muchly useful it is.
  18. The blades are much larger and 4 of them. ecofan only had 2 blades. At high temperatures the Eco fan made a racket. This one seems to operate really well at higher temperatures.
  19. In my 40fter I had an Eco fan and it was great. However it wasn't up to the job for my current 70fter so I bought a Stirling engine one. It's wonderful.
  20. Do you think a pram cover will withstand the big storm or is it best put down?
  21. Yes I have the above photo and a Victron Phoenix multiplus 12 v 3000w 120 amp. It has 2 sets of lights the charger side, then the inverter side. One button in the middle that is either on / off / charger only. Plus the above (exactly the same). Phoenix multi control. The there is this blue seas system which I think might be the whole system on or off. It says AC Main and reverse polarity lit up. Then there is the isolation transformer but that doesn't have any buttons. Then the solar charge controller which I have never touched. It just tells me how the solar is charging the batteries. So It would seem that I do have the combined charger and inverter.
  22. I currently have a petrol suitcase one (3000w evopower) but want an onboard one eventually, when I can get enough info on what to get and enough money). But for now it will be chained to the bank. I am static. My boat also has an annoying Hubble cable plug instead of the standard shoreline, which I want changing. We tried once before to put 240v through the shoreline but nothing seemed to happen inside indicating that I had to do something to make it work. I need a marine electrician really - anyone know of any in surrey?
