  1. I haven't used the 175 amp alt with these batteries(Trojan 6v) only the T/P and Victron Charger.I am not sure I want such to use the 175 amp alt on these batteries because I am sure it killed my previous leisure batteries.I think by using the mains charger the Trojans will be better cared for even if I am using slightly more fuel to do so.
  2. I have 450 amp Trojan battery bank with 175amp alternator and 3.5kva travel power.I have recently stopped using the 175amp alternator and just use the T/P through a Victron charger which is a 1600/70/12.I find the batteries will be more cared for in this setup rather than using the alternator and the charger together.
  3. As you say the on the outside of the boat yer could fry an egg but on my boat it is much cooler on the inside,as it should be if the insulation is effective.

If you have an inverter make use of it and go 230 volt the prices are much lower.I have to disagree with the "greatly increases power useage".A report done by a canal magazine and Which magazine blew this myth some years ago.Sorry I don't have more supportive evidence as it was a while since I read the document.
  5. And Hudson's will give you a rivetting view up someone's kilt.
  6. I am at East Marton for the the next couple of weeks, that's just before the Bank Newton set of locks.Good pub called the Cross Keys and Cafe at the moorings nearby.Worth a stop for a couple of days.Just to add the water level is quite low here and down through to Gargrave,I had to help Richard's Hire Boat ISABELA,is that the right spelling?through a low pound just before the Anchor Inn at Gargrave. We towed her out when she ran aground.
  7. Right so now I have fitted my Trojan 6v batteries(450amp)I need solar.Thinking of fitting 40amp tracer MPPT controller and around 350watts of solar panel. What do the educated think?
  8. I am getting more angry now that I am beginning to realise I should not have started this thread without seeing the letters myself or asking for more facts. For that I apologise.I took hearsay as truth.I was hoping to help a friend with feedback from here, however I am saddened that I was not made aware of all the facts beforehand.
  9. Wait a minute,they are the one's that overstay.
  10. I would be more surprised if they left a visitor mooring to go in marina.
  11. No I said they don't use the visitor moorings! They move around quite regularly.
  12. I am now reliably informed by one of the boaters that far from being "ordered" back to their moorings they have been asked. One of the boaters as a CRT mooring, but is in dispute with them over some vandalism at the mooring and does not to moor there regularly. The other has a mooring that is payed for when required. There is probably more to it than this but the boater without the CRT mooring was pretty angry at the time so obviously I didn't get the other side of the coin. And no, I have not seen the letters myself.
  13. Your impression is correct.I think you are not far wrong. Will try,but these are private letters remember.
  14. That sounds like a stalker, Dean.
  15. The moorings are indeed close to their cruising range.
  16. Have Victron Inverter/charger will look at the manual to see how I can charge at 14.8v.Cheers Les.
  17. A couple of my boater friends have been told by official letters from CRT to return to their moorings or be classed as CCers. Both these boaters have CRT long term moorings but because of where the moorings are they are they tend not to use them unless they are leaving the boat for any length of time. The moorings are in the centre of town and have been the subject of vandalism occasionally. Both of them move regularly and are never seen on visitor moorings. What is happening?Anybody else had these letters?
  18. Yep great price and they are a decent company.Too late for me though I have already wired up my Trojans.
  19. Yep that's exactly what I have done.Cheers bizzard.
  20. We just put half a tea cups worth in an empty cassette, when full leave a week or so then empty, then repeat.
  21. We use a cheap bio washing liquid and find it excellent.
  22. Went to Abergele,Tayna's place, picked up 4 Trojan T105s (450amp)and replaced my old batteries the same day.The wiring connections for these batteries are simple and very tidy(6volt series/parallel).I have disconnected the 175amp alternator and I am just using the travel pack and Victron inverter/70amp charger which I think will prolong their life. Thanks to all for assistance and Smiley Pete for the wiring diagram.
