Used to have ducks and moorhens with their broods, but for the past couple of years there's been nothing. Seems like the arrival of mink has caused this.

A junior rating in the navy used the same tactic and always remembers Rosyth fondly as he copped off with one of the locals and pi$$ed razor blades for days afterwards until the antibiotics worked.

A few CCers on the Union Canal and BWS are quite tolerant of boaters that don't dwell too long in any location. Is this an option for you? Noticed today the local boats are clearing out of Lochrin Basin in the city center as the summer season gets under way and several hire boats have stopped in Edinburgh. So being prepared to relocate around Edinburgh and West Lothian may be your best option, and plenty of people on here will tell you where to aim for and avoid.

Sorry for the current hirers, after last week's mini-summer, the winter has returned as two boats pass by on their way to Edinburgh.

Had locals and tourists "visit" the boat and also asking the usual questions regarding cold in winter and council tax. But I'll watch people being photographed standing next to Ferraris and other supercars parked in central Edinburgh, so it's the same sort of harmless curiosity that motivates.

A FB friend just posted a photograph of Gaia torched but still afloat canalside at Stamford Bridge. Hope it hasn't resulted in inury to the owner.

Just to say the Scottish canals are getting their latest celestial top up as I type!

As one who lives onboard I started off using a local launderette but after getting my neighbour's old compact Candy (on its last legs). Went straight out and replaced it with a new compact washing machine and wouldn't be without one now, only wish I had enough room for a dryer (or Scotland could share in Anglia's drought!)
