Have seen 'Warneford VC' many times on the K&A in the last few years, fine she looks too.

Looking at it for the last 20 mins or so, seems fine. I'm using Mozilla Firefox.

The pumping station pumps out of 'Wilton Water', an artificial lake constructed when the canal was built. It's the water level in this lake which is low.

Thank you all very much for your tips and experiences, very useful. I thought that a pilot on board was mandatory but this seems not to be the case which is interesting. Re the closure of the Avon at Bath with the unsafe bridge, I wll not be making the trip until Spring 2013 at the earliest. Hopefully the river will be navigable by then. Please keep on with the info etc., trust me, everything is being read avidly.

In the not too distant future, I'm thinking of taking the nb from the K&A up to Gloucester via the Avon and Severn Estuary. Any info and tips would be welcome eg., how much do the authorities charge for the pilot? any special equipment needed like VHF, GPS etc. I take it as read that lifejackets, anchor, insurance, good weather are a must.

Many useful hints and tips in this string. If I may add this one (although useless if you are single handed). Having had to reverse for quite a distance due to damaged lock gate and no handy winding hole, a crew member on the towpath hanging on to the bow and stern ropes and adjusting as necessary made for fairly trouble free reversing.

Word on the street is that the majority of the moorings in Caen Hill marina have been taken up but I agree, it looks pretty empty at the moment.

Many thanks to all posts re Hungerford Marina. This seems to confirm what I thought, shame really as I only live a few miles away. Ah well, the way of the world.

Has anyone any info on the proposed Hungerford Marina on the K&A canal? I thought the plan was dead in the water but I see that there is a canal stoppage planned in the new year to allow the building of the marina entrance.
