  1. I reckon JP's know when they are on a tidal stretch or a scary bit of river and make odd noises just to keep their owners on their toes....I know mine does....it also has the odd cough just to make my heart beat a bit faster..... Cheers Gareth
  2. I don't think I would be taking the risk...unless I was given lots of assurance....and some hefty security on site 24/7.....hope they find the scooters and give them more than a slap on the wrist. Cheers Gareth
  3. You are braver than me....I would be moving I have to admit. Cheers Gareth
  4. People on a canal forum go boating??....really? I can't imagine that.....if they do that they may well miss the chance to raise a trivial point and add to their post count..... Cheers Gareth
  5. Thanks for keeping us all informed. It's really quite scary especially since we only left Manchester less than a week ago albeit from the relative safety of Castlefield. Cheers Gareth
  6. I can confirm that Barnton tunnel doesn't have any times.....it's also not wide enough to pass two boats....however that didn't stop the day boat from anderton trying even though we were 3/4 of the way through and were sounding the horn as we saw them come in....they did get the right idea & reverse out in the end.... Cheers Gareth
  7. Blimey! That is sobering. I hope the powers that be have taken note. Isn't every day on here a grumpy day at the moment?? Cheers Gareth
  8. I have tachometer envy....looks good! Btw did the injector pump you brought cure the smoking? Cheers Gareth
  9. . I'm waiting for my slot & it's raining so I'm indoors at the mo! Even I'm not that sad! Out of interest what side was this Dean? I do hope the police are taking it seriously...they always seem to treat stuff like this as petty crime which really annoys me. Cheers Gareth
  10. It wasn't aimed at you...it was aimed at Jenlyn from a few posts up! I couldn't be bothered to sort out his post & quote as I'm waiting to go down the boat lift so on my phone with an iffy signal! Cheers Gareth
  11. I wasn't aware I accused ANYBODY of doing anything. However the problems especially on the public (visitor mooring) side of the marina have been listed both on here and various blogs quite a few times since the marina opened. It's a shame cos on paper it's a good spot...however the location is less than perfect. I thought DeanS had said that the public side was not a great place to be. I suppose we should ask what side this boat was. Anyway I really can't be bothered with point scoring on here. I'm more concerned that a chap has lost his boat and if it wasn't for some quick thinking people more people could have lost their boats if not their lives. Cheers Gareth
  12. I am a small business owner..I don't expect anyone who works for me to do it for free anymore than I expect to work for another company for free. Cheers Gareth
  13. Have a search! Not hard to find both on here and in the local (Manchester) press....or I'm sure DeanS could enlighten you! Blimey that's not a little fire is it? I hope the police etc are taking it seriously? Cheers Gareth
  14. Given the history and location of the marina my prime suspects would be the local feral youth! Cheers Gareth
  15. Blimey well done to the quick thinking people there & much commiseration to the owners of the boat..that's a terrible thing to happen. I'm not sure given other problems there that I would be happy if my boat was moored there at the moment.... Cheers Gareth
  16. Fair enough if it's for a charity.....not so good if it's tescos!...hotel boats are commercial concerns however unfortunate the circumstances of why they require staff. Cheers Gareth
  17. Well I shall find out in the morning and report back! Cheers Gareth
  18. Well it's not that hard to get an "in" on a hotel boat....just look for the ads at the start of the season....crew seem to change quite often...like trip boat crew...it's a seasonal thing...oh and before you spout off again...yes I have worked a trip boat. Cheers Gareth
  19. Well as someone who's freelance and who's income varies from job to job I'm afraid I disagree. It would be nice to work for nothing on a "fun" job but I'm afraid that doesn't pay the bills. I just think it would have been nice to have been informed what sort of pay (if any) was on offer...it saves a lot of wasted time for both parties.... Cheers Gareth
  20. Thanks for the confirmation Martyn! Cheers Gareth
  21. It was me that was passing through when Mike Carter arrived! I didn't like to chat for too long as already been chatting to Mike for a while! That's a very kind offer...but the ones have will get me home so it's not that urgent but many thanks for confirming my thoughts, Cheers Gareth
  22. Cheers for that.....I guess the fumes from the JP are getting to me!...will try and time our arrival correctly at Saltersford. Many thanks Gareth
  23. I would have thought some idea of pay would be the first thing I would put in a public forum if you want somebody half decent....It would also save a lot of unnecessary emails and phone calls for both parties. Cheers Gareth
  24. I think I need to replace one of the grease nipples for the rocker shafts as the grease gun no longer sits well on it....now I've looked in the manual and had a root about online but I can't find what the thread is on the nipple....the nearest I've got is that CS ones are 1/8" BSP which probably looks about right. Does anyone know for sure before I sort a supplier? It's the one for the rear head so needs to be 90 degrees as well. Cheers Gareth
  25. We are heading southbound on the T & M and will be going through Barnton and Saltersford tunnels tomorrow....we know that Saltersford has a one way system that's on the half hour going south but both of us think we had to wait at Barnton for a timed transit last time we went through...is this right or has old age set in?....I'm beginning to think maybe we didn't now.... Cheers Gareth
