  1. looks like good stuff i might give it a try and then just give it a top coat just to be safe
  2. thanks for all the help guys i think im going to have a go at grinding/ sanding back the rust and then painting with that thick hammerite in red oxide to match the rest of the decks. on another note does anyone know a good place to match the exterior paint on the boat the previous owner didn't give us the paint code in any of the paperwork and didn't leave a spare tin. and im not sure what type of locker ive got its right up in the bow of the boat though if that helps
  3. im not sure if they still have it waterways world magazene used to have a design tool on there website
  4. hi all in the spring or when it warms up I've got the task of painting inside my gas locker becuse the rust is starting to show its face . can anyone suggest what i can use to do this job and what should i do along the lines of preperation for the painting?
  5. the fact the outside temperature has dropped could mean that your getting colder water being supplied into the system. also try lagging the tank it could keep some of the heat inside it and normally you find on domestic hot water systems in houses that sludge in the system caused by air causing the pipes to start oxodising (sorry about my spelling) is the main cause for a drop in temperature.
  6. i've never painted inside an engine bay but i've seen cars being painted they normally use something called pre-paint to get rid of any dirt or grease off the bodywork before they paint it. try asking someone who works in halfords they might be able to help.
  7. okay i'll give them a check. If they have gone can you recomend anywhere that sells replacement mounts for a bmc engine
  8. I will give the engine mounts a check its there a method to test them ? and i dont think it could be anything inside the engine as it was serviced at the start of the season by calcutt
  9. thanks for the tips guys its for on a trad stern boat but the top cover is loose like on the pictures. I think we will give the neoprene strips a go do you think it could be anything with the engine thats causing them to vibrate ?
  10. I was wondering if anybody had any tips or advice on how to stop vibrations from the engine coming through the engine covers?
  11. I only wondered what other people thought because firstly the layout, and the addition of side hatches, and the portholes are different from the usual Black Prince boats and secondly its the first time ive seen them produce a new boat layout since the early 2000's. And i think its nice to let other people know about these sort of things who might of otherwise been oblivious
  12. hey guys what do you think of the new black prince boat i just saw it on there website and i think its quite smart and a good "couples" boat. heres a link to it http://www.black-prince.com/news/new-princess-2-4/
  13. my friends do tend to come up with their philosophys when in the pub tryoing out the real ale
  14. a friend mentioned to me that 2nd hand boats some of them tent to swim better in the water but they tent to lack in cabin space
  15. I was just wondering if anyone else shares the opinion of a boater i met at the water tap today who quoted " buying a 2nd hand boat is better than buying brand new boat". I kind of agree with him but may be biased cause i've only ever bought 2nd hand due to money so whats everyone elses opinion?
  16. we are going to give that a try the aerial is attached to the front bulkhead so water might have gone down the back of it Thanks for all the advice in such a short amount of time! we are going to have a look at the aerial connections but if there no good we are going to take a trip to halfords and commet to have a look at some DAB radio's so in a short amount of time there should be sweet music back on the old ship i saw them on halfords website and thought they looked good do they connect into an AUX point ?
  17. Question the good old captin (dad) has asked me to post. out boat has an fm radio cd player and it struggles to pick up the faithful radio 2 and radio 1 and we have tried tuning it when we are stationary in the marina but still nothing but fuzz. I was wondering if anyone has any advice how we could fix the problem or if they know if a DAB replacement would pick up a good signal at canal level?
  18. go a tug deck on our boat the dinette sofa thing lives under there so we can have loose chars during the day making our little 6ft saloon very useful and they make it easy to get on and off the boat if your a bit old and cant move very easy like my mum just make sure you got some sort of sandex grip or something in a terential downpour become a little slippy!
  19. i think you've miss understood i was on about them saying 5 digit registration plate boats are proper boaters and they weren't giving me any boat buying advice. They were just dishing out boat snobbery in my eyes which after going on hireboat holidays for the past 12 years its one thing i cannot stand
  20. I love having a 5 digit licence plate. It confers the image of being actual proper boaters.
  21. thanks for the advice. i've booked tickets for a day at crick! to have a good chat with alot of builders and have a look around boats and take some pictures of what i really want and to see what sort of layout i think will work for me . im also thinking of increasing my budjet to stretch to a newer boat
  22. yea the length is good i'd have to get rid of the bright yellow tho hey i have handled 70ft working boats in the past but find the economical benifits of cheaper mooring and liecence a bonus of a shorter boat i had a look and i've realised that black prince only have a 12v charging point. How much would a 240v ring cost to be installed? thanks for all the replies, they have realled opened my eyes a little bit. Im not too fussed about having to do a bit of DIY on the interior i need a little hobby/project. i've had a look at an alvechurch boat on there website and i know they build there own boats what are there shells and quality of fit-out like?
  23. hey im new to this forum stuff so go kind at first please
