  1. Thats right they do, have a look at the Sterling web site and it tells you not to bother buying a de-sulphater if you have one of their chargers, I dont,(mastervolt) however for 40 notes you can't complain! and its a "fit and forget" item!
  2. Nice to see someone with a common sense answer! Im not on mains power just solar and a small geni, keeping them 100% charged will always be hard. As for why have i fitted this item if the batteries are new, which I think is abit of a daft thing to say, the whole ponit is to prevent battery sulfation in the first place..........."prevention is better than cure", well thats the theory! Kristian.
  3. Thats exactly how its wired in, same as the take off cables, just for the recored i had this unit some months but the batteries are now all new!! Hopefully "Great success"
  4. Ok Just bought a Battery Desulphation Unit from stirling, the manual states: "The Pro Pulse can be used on any battery bank size, simply connect it accross the battery bank and leave it, Connect the Black cable to the Negative of the battery, and the Red cable to the positive". However it does not state were to connect the wires if you have more that one battery? I cant see that it makes any differnce as all the batteries are wired together to make one big battery bank, in my case 4x140Ah. So heres how ive connected it, the red lead to the + terminal on the first battery, and the black lead to the - terminal fourth battery. If anyone can see a problems with this please let me know, Only want views for clarification purposes as the first unit lasted only 2wks, just want to make sure it not me doing something wrong!! Thanks Kristian.
  5. If the 12V fridge was one of the gas/mains/12v types then I agree, but if it was a 12V compressor fridge and the inverter is just for the fridge then I think this statement needs looking at. Remember such a fridge 10m away from the batteries will need 10sq mm cable. However it does depend on inverter power. Hi Tony, yes the fridge to be removed is a 12V compressor fridge not a 3way job, and the new mains fridge will have its OWN inverter.
  6. The boats already has an inverter, but for the ring main etc, Im going to get a smaller inverter just for the fridge only and wire it into the 12v cables that supplied power the 12v fridge when its removed, 150watts tops? Kristian.
  7. If one wishes to use a mains 240v powered fridge on a 12 system via an inverter hows does one calculate the inverter size needed? The fridge draws 165kws per year, anyone any ideas? Heres the details, http://reviews.argos.co.uk/1493-en_gb/4857644/reviews.htm Do I take 165kws divide by 365 (days) they by 24hrs? Thanks Kristian.
  8. The 1 thing Ive leart with solar is that "you need to spend money to save money" with a 80w panel you might as well pee in the wind, sorry to be blunt but thats the way it is, Ive a total of 420 watts and today my batteries have not been over 12v amp where about 3-4 amps max as someone said the time of year dont help but come summer it quite different.
  9. Give it time it will reopen, yet again......................
  10. A little while ago in one of the mag's and at Crick, I saw a oven which sits on top of a morso squirrel stove, it seems perfect for doing bread and cakes and maybe pizza etc, BUT I can no longer find any info at all on this item, does anyone have any info as to the maker of this item and if its still made? Many thanks....................
  11. OK, my friend has a 24v boat and is wanting some solar panels, due to his boat being 24v can he have only solar panels bigger than 135watts? reason being, as you go over 135watts the panel voltage jumps to over 18v which is what my 12v system works on. eg you can go down from 18v to meet 12v but not up as in his case. Doing my homework panels over 135watts tend to be about 36v or more, my thinking being that if his boat is 24v the panels being bought MUST be more than 24volts as the output can go down to meet 24v but not up in the case of panels of 135watts or smaller? Or do we we forget about panels wattage size and just wire up the same as my 12v system and let the Stecca 30amp control do its thing? Ta very much! Kristian.
  12. Ive got two cats from Braunston from "diesel Dave RIP", who thought he had a male cat until he finished work one night and found 6 kittens on his boat! Heres what I do, try and keep them inside the boat for a long a you can whilst feeding them inside, that way they start to associate the boat as "home". Keep them locked inside whilst on the move, just to keep you happy and know their safe and when you do let them out dont feed them prior, they wont go far as they will be hungry. When you do moor up somewhere new try and put a large scoop of used cat litter from THEIR tray into the hedge bottom, cat work on smell and will be able to find their way back. Last keep all the doors open when your moored up, so if they get chased or spooked by a dog they can get aboard quickly, dont forget they will see the boat as home and safety. You just got to think like a cat!!! Kristian.
  13. Horses on the towpath, what ever next? Kristian. ps get on with it!
  14. Im looking at replacing my x4 135amp wet's due to them no longer holding charge, Ive had them 4years so they've done ok. Has anyone had dealings with these sealed wet batteries? Im thinking of getting 4 of these, http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=170651912771&category=108845&_trksid=p5197.c0.m619 All thoughts welcome! many thanks Kristian.

  17. Ive got a Mansfield Dump through toilet model 911, Its not longer made and was trying to find the equivalent model, which seems not to be made. There are other Mansfield toilets in the range, taller, shorter, less depth etc, my question is maybe there all different but is the distance from the rear bathroom wall to the holding tank hole the same? eg i dont want to buy a new bog and find the drop hole is now in the wrong place, left to right is ok, but the front to back distance is the main concern? hope thats clear Kristian.

  22. Hello, Up until a couple of years ago I had a 3kva yellow Kipor generator, Id heard many good and bad things about them but as money was tight I bought one rather than a branded make, eg Honda eu20i or Hyundai. Well I got a good one, it was great, started first time and ran very well. Well I wish id never sold it, as now it would come in very handy. Do they still have a bad press or have they improved? In short are they any good? They seem very common on the web and many people are stocking them, Plenty of posts wanted please! Many thanks Kristian
