  1. Hi, having just completed most of the cheshire ring, [apart from the city bit, prefer countryside],We have now decided to book two weeks on the Lancaster in June,[she wants a rest after the macclesfield and heartbreak locks on T&M][although I did most of them lol].Has anyone been on Lancaster recently and have any tips about good hostelries and timings, although I presume we could meander up and down from preston to tewitfield twice in that time. Cheers Timx

Hi we are going from Lymm on the cheshire ring for ten nights and have decided to go to the peak forest canal down to the basin arm at whalley bridge via trent and mersey ,then turn round and return rather than complete the ring, any suggestions about best stopping off places and pubs, etc . All suggestions valued, going tommorrow, cheers, [i can read on the way if i can get wifi]

    warwick ring

Ha , Fantastic answers ,thanks, but after all that going from Lymm to the peak canal and back in ten nights, cos dont like the idea of goin through Manchester
  6. its not so much ''risk'' of manchester, i just want open countryside and keep away from the metropolis, but thanks , i might reconsider..
  7. Liangollen was a good idea, but all canals are nice, have been there and oxfoerd both gorgeous, my only tip is make sure you get a route guide so you have an idea where to stop etc and where to head for for the night, and plan the pubs wisely lol.
  8. Hi. We are getting a boat out from lymn for ten days, want to go anti clockwise and travel to peak forest canal then back again as dont want to go through manchester, also want to try going to Whalley bridge for a look, will I have time to do that and go on the Anderton boat lift for a day on the river, only me and a female or would that be too much if wanting to sample the pubs as well...?or am I wrong not wanting to do the locks after the peak and sail through Manchester to complete the ring..your views would be appreciated or any other ideas??

    warwick ring

mm nice one havent decided yet,we do prefer to spend as much time as possible on the boat, I just find it hard not to explore pubs on the canalside, half the fun lol.will have to have a think, thanks. preferably will do ten days but seems difficult to get a Thursday start from boat hirers
  13. Is the warwick ring possible in a week , starting from cathiron near rugby? will be mid April, with just two aboard, [one being a female, with their slow ways lol] would it give time to sample the various hostelries, or be too much of a rush in just a week.??
  14. Thanks have added it to favourites for future reference
  15. Ha, thanks for that...i think...
  16. This is getting frightening,if I dont have a clue about electrics ,batteries etc would it be foolhardy to buy a nb,for liveaboard,cc, if i dont envisage having loads of dosh to keep taking it to a boat yard everytime something goes wrong....?
  17. Hi, I'm relatively new to boating, but hooked now on canal boating,so far just holidaying on hire boats, but three yrs till I retire, and then buy one, just deliberating on size...

  18. Good idea but the recession bites again and its cancelled. Timx
  19. Hi lots of options to float down the llangollen from north west boat yards, so i would try latelink for mutiple choice at a better price.Have been twice from different boat yards, just depends what size you want at most competitive price, always better to have options...Timx P.S Travelling after 6 pm till dusk there are not a lot of boats travelling, so if your looking for tranquility travel late, and spend the afternoon sampling the few good pubs, plan ahead with a good boat/pub guide.hic tx.
