  3. HI , GOING IN JUNE FOR TWO WEEKS, ON A HIRE BOAT, ANY OTHER CONSIDERATIONS ?
  4. In the early stages of buying a boat[still the thinking stage] but definately getting one to spend retirement on, well fair weather april to october, obviously wide beam is best but want to travel so other option is 59ft to travel everywhere. Is it best to buy a second hand boat , one or two years old, rather than a new boat nb, what did other people consider in this situation, I have no interest or skills in anything electrical or mechanical, just love the life so far, only done holidays on them for last four yrs, would be interested in peoples thoughts and experiences,I have a g/f who i live with part of the time but not all the time, who loves holidays on the boats going different places, has anyone found this stretches relationships in a tube lol..?any comments welcome. I really love the experiences so far, have i still got rose coloured specs on ??
  5. Try ''latelink'' we use them all the time, lots of choice at cheaper prices if your flexible.

I'm afraid the responders so far have forgotten the topic has recently been covered. Reading the old thread (from April 2011 !) should guide you as to what electrically techie questions you need to ask the hire company, and / or what alternative straighteners you could buy her that would stand a better chance of working, however competent the hire company is when answering your techie question. 3 page Hair Straightening thread. A third alternative is to make a suitable inverter the start of your boat buying bottom drawer. Bolt a set of suitably meaty jump leads, with spring clamps strong enough to challenge your manliness, to the inverter input, and you will be on route to boating happiness. Just make sure you pack the assembly in a suitably anonymous or misleadingly labelled cardboard box. You don't want the hire company seeing what you are intending to clamp to the boats' domestic battery bank. HTH done that and still non the wiser, but thanks

mm i could agree, but she wont go bar unless her hair is pretty
  10. Cotrary to other views it is an unavoidable contact sport,so accept it ,just be sensible and do things correctly then if you try to do things right, its not your fault, just a challenge to be enjoyed, and dont get angery , smile, laugh and the world laughs with you, cry and you cry alone... Tim I wish everyone was as perfect as me , lol but then again id hate to drive a nb sober.

ha, tried that , both of them , but not impressed I appreciate it might be a silly question, tho.
  12. OMG, why does boating seem complicated ,do I need an electrician on board b4 I plan to buy a boat, im a nurse retiring, i know nothing about electrics, should i reconsider?? cos im cack handed at diy.

    Straightners

ps, i know nothing about electrics.
  14. The only thing that scares me about buying a nb is that Iknow nothing about mechanics or electrickery.Am i overly concerned or is this akin to men and motorcars, fiddling, not being glib really, its a concern.
  15. Ilove narrow boating whatever, so does my g/f but whenever i hire a boat her only question is can i use my straighteners on it.? Therefore i always get boat with 240 v capacity, but sometimes Im told yes 240 but, when i get there, told only one plug at a time and no cant use hair straighteners cos uses too much power causing it to trip etc, .MY question is do I just ask what power there inverter is, to stop me having to ask silly girly questions.Plus side is I have to find a pub at lunch time so she can use their leccy facillities while i have a pint , and its all for her lol. ?
  16. I agree London where.? and stay up later more fun lol.mmm canal waterways i luv em.
  17. I have found stuck means she doesnt have to tie the ropes while im in the pub..
  18. went june last year, and only queued once on way back, about an hour, but whats the rush, just helped with the locks for other people and was pleasant, and it was raining.Everyone is pleasant on the cuts and nice to hear where people are going/been.Great fun.Itravelled late in the day 12 till nine and after 6 pm , most people seemed to have moored up so had most of the run to ourselves after that.when moored up in llangollen no where to pay so had a free night in their nice moorings, lol.Nice easy canal, we got the boat off latelink ,lots of possibilities for what you want, and where from, and a bit cheaper.Oh I love the canals.
  19. Surely we are looking for romance, just depends on the definition lol.
  20. Probably lol, think biggest was at middlewich, and no need there, but just wondered why you would use other lines apart from middle line, would seem a bit fiddly.
  21. Why do you have to use ropes in the lock,Ive never used any rope in a lock, is it because there so big,and then would only envisage using the middle line, sorry formy ignorance,
  22. Nice one , we are starting off from around Tewitfield, so will take your advice , might stay at the pub there the night before.
  23. Cocidering its 12 locks there and back is Glasson basin worth the trip.
  24. Thats great thank you, I will make a note of all of that, the tesco bit is handy as well, thanks, I wont mention the Dalton arms bit though as she will take it the wrong way... Also I note the lower water level, I experienced that on the Macclesfield last week, untidy mooring needed in the rural areas, particularly if a female tries to get off, but quite funny, why are girls not good at jumping ,is it the same premise as throwing a ball.Seemed to be miles away from the bank and one tight turn and your in the silt. If you spent that amount of time on the Lancaster must be good, and I thought two weeks was too long lol, thanks for the reassurance, think im still at the need to go somewhere all the time phase, lol. cheers again.
  25. know canal plan, just wondered on personal views.
