  1. Still wouldnt make the wife happy ...she still walks over hangin on for dear life! Its quite scary but I never let on to her !
  2. It was there when I was up there last july! Wife and I both thought why abandon when scrap value mus tbe good ! JK
  3. Yes there was and I did that already . Might just relace the hose if it gets worse cos it did not appear to be pinched on re fitting thanks to all anyway JK
  4. Hi I have a small leak in the join of my rubber pipe work to the calorifier where the jubilee clips have been used. I have already taken apart cleaned up and re-newed the clips when the leak was greater and am now left with a tiny dribble that appears after the engine has cooled. I have put some newspaper uder the area so as to get a good idea as to how much and its not usually very wet. more damp but enough to want to cure. Can I use Radweld ? I confess to not knowing how it all works but I assume that the hot water passed from the engine is coming and out via the rubber hoses and the "clean water" is in and out of the grey plastic pipes. What do you reckon on radweld or something else ? cheers JK
  5. I heard somewhere that stretching can have an impact on the swim of the boat and that put me off considering it as mine handles just fine. The thought of it handling like a lead ballon did not appeal. JK
  6. You are correct I bought her second hand and am still getting to know all the little foibles and "features" left behind. tks anyway JK
  7. Thanks for all the replies.. yes its a split relay for charging but I know nothing of it other than that... When I next get down the boat I will try your suggestions. Looks like might be this weekend as I will be crusing her to dry dock for blacking and the guy doing it might also have time to look at it as well. Hope you are not all snow bound ! cheers all JK
  8. I have an electrical prob which I need to look at but dont know where to start. Firstly our boat is all 12v and there is a problem with the plug sockets which seems to have arisen since we had a new relay fitted as emergency whilst out cruising. This I think might be where the problem is. After I turn on the battery isolater switch none of the 12v lights or sockets etc work until I plug in my tv ariel booster. This appears to complete a circuit so I suspect that the co-ax cable is earthing or whatever the correct term is and that cannot be right nor safe. As I do not know much about wiring and relays etc can anyone suggest what I could try to resolve it. It would be nice to sort it without calling out an electrician. In the mean time I always turn off everything when leaving the boat as we are not live aboards. tks JK
  9. Hi Phil....cant say I saw BW or IWA stands today...so was quite poor..guess I may not have gone If I had posted this earlier for opinions (It was my first time to that show) Thanks will stick to Crick (went last year first time) and the National (Not been to yet) Regards JK
  10. Just got back from NEC and have to say for boaters you are better off with Crick! and half the price. It was pretty busy but considering the location and the word"boat" coming first in the show title I was disappointed with the general turn out of Inland Waterways related displays. If I see another motor home or caravan again I think I will scream! The amount of caravan displays to anything else was disproportionate so I would not recommend it if you are into Narrowboating. Did take a good look over the New Boat Co displays though and enjoyed chatting with Liverpool boat staff. We came away still liking the "sandpiper" fully fitted best and it remains on a our wish list for the moment. Anyone else go ? or have any views on the show ? (maybe its just me getting old and crusty and too picky :-) ) regards JK
  11. I think the experience of moving it yourself is a great one. You are bound to get a few scratches in the locks but that is all part of the learning curve. Lots of double locks on the GU and if your the only boat then take care to use only one set of gates for filling. Its a great way to find out how your boat handles and will be an adventure. JK
  12. Quite agree...found it hard not to laugh at the floating gin palaces that never leave our marina in case they get it scratched in a lock. ! Last spring I spent a few weeks hand painting Little Nell from green to blue and then we took her out for the summer for 4 weeks and scratched her again....gotta touchup all over again soon or maybe have it done professionally but then again would prefer her re-fitted first. Oh the joys and cost of boating ! jk
  13. Thats interesting...They did my blacking and servicing 2003 and I liked the guy there (who incidentally was on one the old waterworld programs) I have been thinking about repaints with them but have not got around to finding the money. I would be interested to know how it turns out as well regards JK
  14. We dont have a boiler to ours but agree with the other posts . Our Boatman stove fire can be kept going till around 5am if turned right down last thing before bed. I also agree that taybrite does produce a lot more ash but then the other coals I have tried all burn hotter and therefore quicker so you use more.! Any one got a view on best and /or economic coals ? JK
  15. As Far as I am aware you are only required to have your line connected to the digibox in the first year of the contract. As previously stated ..without the line then no PPV etc. JK
  16. Had mine done by same company end of last year in blue acrylic. Pleased with end result after false start but wont go into details as all was fine in the end.
  17. Sounds good to me ! Do they have electric ? We know that part of the canal well as it is our neck of the woods being moored at Whilton (Bottom of the Buckby Flight). The Hear of England has changed hands again since last summer and is pretty good then again I also like the Wharf Inn at Bugbrooke. Will keep an eye out for you regards JK
  18. The system time on the server may be 1 hour wrong as I just posted and noted the time after ! regards JK
  19. Hi Big Col I am pretty sure I have seen you about then ! Lazy Otter I think was at Whilton when sold and I looked over her and really liked her.In fact my 14 yr old lad still goes on about her and why didnt we buy her !-Money on trees ! . I am sure I have seen sleepy otter around stow hill marine area on occasions and we remarked on the great paintwork. See u around ! regards John K
  20. I dont think it would have been a liverpool boat as they did not go to Burton cancelling at the last minute because of the bad weather and state of the field for static display. Well thats what they said on their website at the time and it prompted me not to attend as I wanted to see their boats again.
  21. Dumb question time !...As this issue is hotting up and I suppose I have been complacement in paying attention.... If we are forced to change to white diesel does it mean any engine changes/alterations are required for standard (non vintage) ones ? if so what would be need to be done.? PS I am more than happy to put my name to any petition raised by this forum...I have already done so elsewhere. happy New Year to all JK
  22. Hi on the subject of LCD TV's am also in the market for one but at least 15 inch and 12v/240v. Any thoughts ? have seen a crown one for £350 odd but not convinced about quality. Regards JK
  23. Merry Xmas all... Just wondered if anyone knows or can suggest a material to adhere to the underside of my "cruiser" deckboards to reduce the engine noise. I have seen some very expensive fireproof stuff in the chandlery but I dont feel like parting with my hard earn cash.( I seem to recall it was£25 a squard foot or some such thing) regards JK
  24. Unfortunately there is myself the wife, stepson (14 1/2) and Trixie (the Mutt) so 35 ft is not enough. BUT I have a cunning plan ! After stepson has departed for Uni which we believe he will all things being equal then we will sell up the Land home for a smaller one and then buy a bigger boat say 50ft and spend the time boating in summer and travelling abroad again. PERFICK ! DOnt want to commit completely to the waterways even though I am most definitely smitten with the life. Cheers and seasonal greetings to all forum members and guests JK
  25. Last Summer I clipped the cill on the middle lock there ...I reckon the wife was talking to the lock keeper and his attention wandered .I was stuck until he let some more water down ! JK
