  1. I have been pondering this question for some time and wandering around the internet found "Aquatecnic Waterproofing Solutions" www.wetroom.info who produce a waterproofing system for wetrooms (shower areas to thee and me). They sent me a pack containing technical details and samples. About £117 to do the shower enclosere end floor- to me, money well spent for piece of mind. I dont want to spend half my retirement re-tiling! Try "Granofix"tile adhesive manufacturer, lots of data sheets on the web and helpful on the phone. They produce flexible adhesives and grouts. If silicone was the best they wouldn't be in business! If you want quality adhesives/sealants speak to ARBO. Many caravans are held together with their products and very few physical fasteners. Dont cut corners - they eventually fall off.
  2. have a look at Selway Fisher web site. They sell plans for stitch and tape rowing boats and canoes (among others) which are easy to follow and use. There is also a manual of stitch and tape construction which is good if you have not used the technique before. It may be possible to find this information on the web. For craft that will not be continually immersed in water marine ply is not necessary; use good quality WBP ply. This will contain voids (yes, they are permitted) so check the short grain of each ply of every sheet before purchasing; dony worry about the timber merchant, if they want your money they will have to lump it. Marine ply is not permitted to contain voids and is available in various timbers iosuit different applications.
  3. I have used both hep2o and speedfit; prefer speedfit. PTS (plumbers merchants) are usually the cheapest around Sheffield but try using YellowPages or Yell.com. Most companies are helpful these days with advice and can often 'sort you out a price'. Dont worry how daft the question seems ASK IT. almost anywhere is cheaper than chandlers. Good luck
  4. washing up liquid usually contains silicones to make your dishes sparkle; also inhibits adhession of paint! Use sugar soap instead, wash all paintwork with sugar soap before rubbing down to remove grot. I find Wickes Professional range of brushes good, but as with all paint brushes they are best if "broken in" on a coat or two of undercoat. Does anyone really use those 6 for£1 brushes for painting?
  5. we had the novel experienceafter coming over the Huddersfield narrow of going down the broad breasted up;one boat forward, one backwards! The longer boat would never have fitted forward. Has anyone actually navigated the calder and hebble with a 58 ft boat? Critical information required to keep my wife happy.
  6. We moor on the caldon and travel in and out usuallythree times a year in school holidays and have never had a problem in about 12 years. Almost anywhere out of stoke is ok for mooring, provided you can get near the side! Visit both the arms; Froghall is GREAT.
  7. Does anyone have experience of epoxy hull coatings? I am having the boat shotblasted this summer and am not sure what to recoat with. Howlong does epoxy last; do you still need to dock every 2 years to check hull condition and touch up;are there differences between brands.

    help

I hada P4R ina 46ft narrowboat with 25 inch draught. It was a great engine but probably overpowered for the boat as I had to decoke the heads every year.i finally gave up when the gaerbox dis-assembled itself. A 50p piece would stand upright on the rocker cover at normal cuising speed. Used the original Kelvin 20x15 prop. This was the first engine not designed by walter bergius and so is very different to the earlier models. I have a copy of the Kelvin handbook and parts list which I could copy if helpful. There is a Kelvin owners club rally at Bugsworth Basin on 19 - 21 May.
