  2. Capt Rosie. Have a word with Rick of Cantells Boatyard, Robinson Road, Newhaven. You'll be on the mud until a couple of hours either side of high water, but he may have room for you.
  3. Sorry chuck, gave away the knitting needles after it took four years to knit a jacket.Anyway, never found out how to knit round corners. The only thing I knit these days is my brow. Have you thought about buying a woolly hat & cutting two leg holes in it? I've got one with a bobble on it-it could be a real confidence booster! H Ace answer Headjog 10/10.
  4. Your mobile 'phone chargers shore power and 12 volt.
  5. Nope..walk along the towpath with young son..looks innocent. Unscrew ports, kid goes in passes out goodies, Dad keeps watch. Dad doesn't get stuck in porthole...stands ashore and just stuffs the gear in his back pack..It's a wicked world and an old, old, dodge. Use 'security head' retaining bolts with nuts on the inboard end. Saxon.
  6. I'm a long way from home and don't know what the weathers been like in UK, but 48 hours since boat last seen. A morning with a 9 inch roller and a tin of cheap B&Q Gloss and you're not looking for a completely "Dirty Khaki" boat anymore...Not if he's that crafty anyway..Is there anyone, someone with local knowledge perhaps, who could who could draw say a 48 hour + ring at 4MPH round that last position on a canal map to give an area for an approximate travelling distance of the boat? And does the tealeaf read these forums? Perhaps any possible sightings should be via personal messages between trusted forum members rather than broadcast. Sorry I'm new..but I used to plan bank robberies for a living..
  7. Earlier in the month I posted about a diesel leak into the sump of my WaterMota engine. After much skin loss and good AF spanners sawn short to get at bolts, the high pressure pump (and just about everything else is off) Steve Goddard, reply no: 10 wins first prize...the drive shaft bearing and seal on the pump are shot to pieces.. Thanks one and all for the good advice...I hope the problem is solved..How many Euros for a pump service
  8. HeeHee! Never too old to learn, thanks Tony I now know what a spill rail is.. Saxon.
  9. Ah! I'm with you now Robin, thanks. I've heard different versions, some say it was Ford Cortina engine based but I don't know enough about engines to comment. There is a "Dealer" still. Ha! I requested a list of spares, an injector, drive belt, lift pump spares nearly 4 months in advance, prior to sailing from Falmouth. Two days before sailing...Sorry, haven't got those spares available..
  10. Now I've totally lost the plot. A Kent..where'd that come from? My engine is a Watermota Seapanther (Ford) 1977 vintage. And spill rails Frank have lost me...There is a return from the injectors to the tank in the form of a thin external pipe but there are no leaks anywhere on the outside of the engine.
  11. Thinking about it Robin, the most logical thing to do is get a compression test done before I start surgery on the HP pump. The pump is bolted on to the front cover of the engine and can be slackened off to alter pump timing on the marks. Ideally it needs a 3 foot tall mechanic with telescopic eyes and magnetic fingers to work on it, so I'll go with a compression test first I think.. Thanks.. Saxon
  12. I think you may well be spot on Steve, it does smoke a bit but not enough to support my idea of bores flooding. The high pressure pump relies on diesel for lubrication and the drive shaft may very well be the guilty part. Thanks for that, it's going to have to come off...eewww! bruises on the way.
  13. Hessie, I'm brand new here and I don't live on a canal boat...yet, but I have lived on my yacht for 15 years, so similar problem ('cept I'm big 'an 'airy an can pull their heads off.. Something Scallywags are not keen on, being the centre of attention when they're out thieving. So, can I suggest some good high power lights that will light the outside of your boat up and a decent audible alarm system. Both of these you must be able to switch on yourself...from inside the boat if you feel threatened. Usual advice about locks on doors and windows and not to leave gear about temptingly on deck. The local nick, crime prevention will advise reputable firms to install those items. They may seem expensive at the quote, but you'll sleep better. good luck Saxon
  14. Yep, lift pump runs off a lever bearing on the camshaft. Pump removed and diaphragm found to be as new. all cleaned and replaced. No evidence of fuel oil spraying outside of engine or engine bay and tank is in deep bilge so no drainage into engine when engine is off. I´m guessing again, but if the fuel metering to the injectors via the high pressure pump is the cause, then excess fuel gets sprayed into the bores and runs down into the sump. After a while diesel fuel washes the bores of lube oil and I get oil pressure drop. No evidence of water in the oil or deposit under the rocker box cover as sometimes occurs with blown head gaskets. So fair chance it´s the injector pump which is wonderful news, because the engine manual says..to remove injector pump it is necessary to first remove engine bearer...oh! goody they´ve only been bolted up for 34 years.. saxon
  15. My excuse is it's 00.17 hrs, 29 Celcius in the cabin and....I didn't look properly.
