  1. It doesn’t take the brain of Britain to work out that pouring semi or completely dry faeces combined with sawdust, car litter or similar as the potential to create a blockage in a system not designed to take such items. Just because the members of this forum cannot, hand on heart or a sty of Bibles, you choose, cannot prove categorically that this has happened doesn’t mean that people abusing the waste facilities wont (or haven’t already) caused a blockage. The chance of the culprit a) admitting to their folly, or b) hanging around to help Dynorod (substitute with appropriate drain clearance operatives as appropriate) are slim to bugger all. Just because it hasn’t happened yet doesn’t mean we shouldn’t plan to avoid the scenario. Compare with a nuclear Holocaust, we haven’t had one but we should do all we can to avoid one.
  2. And you have admitted to using elsan facilities in a manner for which they were not designed

  7. Our local council recycles them, they don’t explain how but I have no reason to doubt that they do.
  8. Dried poo may be acceptable, steaming turds, a la the ducking and diving composting toilet owners, not so much. Dog poo is unlikely to be deposited in the same amounts as human poo.

  13. I am more than prepared to believe you about the state of what YOU are prepared to bag and bin, my issue is with the (minority) of boat owners who chose the system to save a few quid and are prepared to put their waste, hopefully double bagged, still steaming into the rubbish bins. You will never convince me that this does not happen.
  14. I am no shrinking violet, I worked for many years in a hospital Pathology Laboratory and dealt with human faeces on a regular basis. In answer to your questions: No, no dog. No babies and in this area nappies are collected in separate, labelled bags for re-cycling. No-one with incontinence issues and, again there are separate bags for this sort of waste here.
  15. 1/ Because it is unhygienic, smelly, and a potential health hazard 2/ Yes
  16. I am opposed to the “(double) bag it and bin it” method of poo disposal. I would be more than happy to oppose your view on this subject in a pub, on a towpath, wherever. I have no objection whatsoever to those people who have the facilities having a composting toilet on their boat, in their caravan, in their home, where ever. I do find the use of rubbish bins as a means of disposal of faeces appalling, that’s why sewers were invented.

  21. Betamax may not have been banned but it became almost impossible to continue to use when films were not available in that format and blank tapes could not be purchased for home recording. So the analogy is NOT spurious: the better product became untenable, Market forces prevailed Betamax owners had to bin them and get a VHS machine. For better product read composting toilet (allegedly) For market forces read CRT being told that Biffa and their ilk will not collect raw shit in plastic bags For Betamax owners purchasing an alternative read the bagger and binners. Capiche?
  22. I rarely have disagreements here. At least I very rarely vent my spleen in a vindictive manner. I commented here as I was genuinely shocked at your vitriolic post in a thread where you had hitherto not been involved. You appear to be stalking Matty 40 just to have a pop at him.
