  1. Happy Birthday. Glad your okay after after your swim. Now go and get a decent phone buy an Android. Pete
  2. Mine isn't rattly and we have some super duper winds up here in the last few weeks. I don't have the bird cowl though I opted for the one that Smokey Joe does with just the wind vane on the top same principal though Pete

  4. I think that, judging from Blackrose's description of the fault aka "it only happens when the machine is on the empty or spin cycle," that narrows it down to the pump. Removing the back plate of the drum, in my experience, is a right pig of a job although I don't know that particular model. By far the easiest job is to remove the pump and split the body to remove any debris. If the debris was caught between the outer and the inner drum then the noise woiuld there all the time IMO. That does happen and, as has been said, removing debris from there can be a nightmare. Again to reiterate the safety stuff. Remove the wall plug or disconnect the mains from the machine before working on any electrical parts and heed teh warning of the residual water. Even when a washing machine is empty there is a surprising amount of water left in the various pipes etc.
  5. The pump only runs when the machine is on the spin or the empty cycle. So that narrows it down to the pump. The pump bearings could be on the way out but it's much more likely that something has dropped out of something that you have washed and has found it's way into the pump. Not all washing machines have filters. The pump cover is, usually, only held on with a spring type clip and providing the washing machine is easy to move then it is a relatively easy to remove the clip and the cover and remove the offending object. If it has damaged the impellor though a new pump is probably needed. I have not tried to get an impellor for a washing machine pump as they always seem to be solid plastic ones that are force fitted to the spindle.
  6. Hi again. Yes I'm not even getting past the initial install. I get the installer cannot parse the package when I launch the installer. I see the IPhone peeps are having problems as well although theirs is mainly in the fact that they have to pay for their app but they can reclaim the cost. Anyway I have emailed RCR and hopefully they will sort it out. I only wanted it for interest anyway. I don't travel far and am highly unlikely to get lost. Pete
  7. Ho Dor Thanks for the reply. The initial should go onto any phone without any problem. It is is only a few kilobytes big. When that is installed then it downloads the maps, which are big, but they can be put on to an sd card of which I have a 32 Gb one. but the problem with my downlaod is that appinstall is telling me that it cannot read the app basically and I was just wondering if anyone else was getting the same problem. Cheers Pete
  8. Hope this in the right place. feel free to move it if not mods. Anyway I have just tried to download the free waterways app from RCR to my android phone as per the email I received from them today. In the email it says that once I have gone through the procedures and put my membership number into the purchase form the form will automatically deduct the price and zero the cost. I will then be allowed to download the app to my phone. The purchasing part goes okay and everything goes to zero but the app does not download to my phone, and in fact at no point was my mobile number asked for. I am able to download the north-east.apk file to my computer and then transfer that to my phone. I should then be able to install the apk file to my phone using AppInstaller from Google Play. AppInstaller does install other apk files okay so I know there is no problem with that but when I try to install north-east.apk to my phone the installer tells me that there is a problem parsing the package, whatever the hell that means. Anyway the upshot is that it will not install the app. I have been back to the RCR store to re-download the app, in case the file had got corrupted during the download, but of course it says that I have already used my free discount so it wont let me. I am aware that RCR have a lot of problems getting these files set up for the various mobile phone platforms and I have emailed RCR to get them to to sort it out. But I was wondering is anyone else has the same problems. Pete

    calorifier

Hi spuds. I am not doubting you in any way but is there any reason why a horizontal calorifier would cool faster than a vertical one. Mine is vertical and the warm water does seem to last a good while. Pete

  12. Sorry Alanji neither of those links worked for me. The You Tube one just goes to the general start page and the other one says sorry this page has moved. To be fair I could find rope splicing on You Tube but I just wanted to let you know that the links were broken. Pete
  13. Hi I had the same problem with mine.I got lots of advice, all relevant, but nothing I tried would allow me to budge the bolts and I ended up drilling them out and replacing them. My stove is a Villager Puffin. The glass is held in in the same manner as yours. I got a new piece of glass and then used heat resistant silicon to provide a bed and seal in the glass rebate. I replaced the four bolts with coach bolts and suitable washers because in my opinion they looked better than ordinary hex bolts and I reasoned that if I was going to have drill them out the next time it didn't matter what the head looked like. The problem is that the heat and corrosion, rust etc etc just ruins the threads and seals the nuts on. Hope that helps Pete

  16. Hi The screen resolution can also make a difference. In Win 7 right click in a clear space on the desk top and then left click on "personalise" in the box that pops up. In the left hand column of the next box left click "display" and again in the left hand column of the next box left click "adjust resolution". I do not know what resolution would best suit the blog page so you will have to experiment a little. My laptop is set to 1366 x 768 which is the highest I can go. There is a slider that you adjust right down to 800 x 600. It's possible that the resolution is set too low to display all the page and whilst you would think that the page would have to be scrolled that is not always the case. If the resolution of Mrs Mac's computer is set low, ie 800 x 600 and wont adjust up then, perhaps, the graphic drivers have become corrupted. Hope that helps. Pete
  17. Agree, he did mine a couple of years ago and he will be doing my BSC next year. Pete
  18. Yes that is what was bothering me a bit as well. I am going to do more research but this forum is as good (probably better) a place to start as any. Pete
  19. Hi all. I saw this thread and thought of me, well my boat anyway, and got to looking on Ebay at "tankless water heaters." They are reasonably cheap but I was wondering about burning gas inside a boat without any form of flue. My gas stove actually does do that but I do know that some water heaters installed on a boat or a caravan need to be exhaust vented to the outside. The particular one I was looking at is this, 1.6 gpm SILVER LPG Gas Ventfree tankless gas water heater No flue required, and what it says is that it does not need a flu because it has this:- What is Vent-Free? A Vent-Free appliance can be installed inside and does not require cumbersome and costly installation of flues and ductwork because it is outfitted with state of the art ODS (Oxygen Depletion Safety shutoff device). fitted to it. There are other models listed on Ebay so I am not going to get this one or maybe wont get any but as I know very little about these things,in fact this is the first I have heard of them. My boat is purely for mine and my wife's leisure so there little point in going into any great expense to get hot water. At the moment the only way my water is heated is by the califorie cali um water tank that is attached to the engine. So, obviously, we only get hot water after the engine has been running. So this would be ideal just to get hot water at the sink if we go a little further than the end of the canal and stay out for a day or two. We could have instant hot water without having to run the engine. To me this all sounds too simple. Apart from the gas connection I can do all the plumbing and installation myself. Is it really that simple and cheap oram I missing something. Pete

  25. And that, as far as I am concerned, is the whole problem with our political system at present. No-one tells you anything (well no-one tells me anyway) about who they are, what they are going to do and when or why I should vote for them. It seems to me that candidates, whether they be for local government. national government or various bodies such as C.A.R.T. etc just expect voters to turn out. Sorry that just aint gonna happen without a hell of a lot of effort on the part of the candidates. Then, of course, we have the corruption and other stuff that has/is going on in government and that impacts on anything votey IMO. Yes I am aware that NOT voting does exactly what Alan has just said it will do but that, I'm afraid, is the nature of the beast. I have absolutely no idea how to change that apathy but change it must. Pete
