This morning: above Bagnall Lock, the River Trent is supposedly in an amber state. Canal conditions are always changeable, and always a Good Idea to be cautious, so it's probably right - but not very helpful. (Unlike the old Thames Conservancy amber signs which were either Amber Strong Stream Increasing or Amber Strong Stream Decreasing - which gave useful information) In the river section = placid as could be, with the sign at the river section lock saying normal. ... and displacing a number of irritated spiders, the one screw on the slide-in cover can make the signs consistent. Whether they are ever reliable or useful is another matter`...
