N B Union Rose ex Josher butty

I have a cut down josher butty known as UNION ROSE. Its about 45' and has a enfield twin and goes stern end first.

The conversion is clearly early sixties and might have been cut down for a hire boat at this time.

I can remember it from Cowley in the 80's when it was owned by Sue who died during the 1986 storms.

Its renovation is on my list of things to do but I suspect when I start I will only use the knees.

Can anyone give a clue to its real identity.

UNION ROSE was converted to a hire cruiser by 'British Waterways' in 1960, then named WATER FERN. My research leads me to believe that the original fore end of this iron F.M.C. Ltd. horse boat was also converted to a hire cruiser by 'British Waterways', becoming WATER GENTIAN. I am however mindful that Ike Argent claimed that WATER GENTIAN was built out of the fore end of the F.M.C. Ltd. iron motor JACKAL.
