I've just uploaded the fun filled opening of Town Lock back in 1996. We needed the police in attendance, as the then owner of the house next to lock was against the restoration and tried to claim the lock side as part of his garden!

Looking at the old photo, I think I can see the mistake.

Nobody thought about having to turn the boats around, so every craft that arrived there had to stay there along with its crew.

 

Hence Driffield ended with a population increase several fold and the largest private navy in The Western World.
