Torksey Lock - River Trent/Fossdyke Navigation

Featured Posts

Just some pictures caught whilst we were out driving last week.

The gates at the Fossdyke end are controlled by these rather old fashioned 'Capstan' wheels. The gates at the far end are hydraulic and operated electrically. There are also 2 sets of gates in the middle which I understand are rarely if ever used.

These guys really got themselves in a pickle in the lock and leaving it.

Plentiful moorings Trent side. On both sides too.

Some pretty substantial flotsam and jetsam, evidence of the recent or previous floods. The path to the moorings was also coated in a thick very slippy slime, evidence of the recent water levels.

Finally - should there be any doubt about who has priority...

I like that notice in the last pic!

(It would be nice if this applied to all CaRT's navigations.)

There must be others somewhere but that is possibly only one of two I recall seeing, but cant remember where the other one was, possibly Whitley Lock VM's on the A&CN.

The phone line in picture two brings back memories. We put the mast of our wayfarer dinghy up whilst coming up in the lock, we then got stuck paddling out of the lock and it took us two attempts before we noticed the phone wire was caught on the mast!

picture 3 why is he holding both ends of the rope?

No idea TBH.

They were definitely not the most experienced pair I would say.
