Retardedrocker
Once the weather starts to improve I need to give Billy a bit of a going over: washing, colour restoring and a good polish. There are quite a number of chips in the paintwork and some rust where hooks and things have been rubbing. What's the best way of touching her up? I guess it's a matter of rubbing it down to bare metal, priming and top coating. Cheers, T.
davey b
You could use a rust converter (Fertan, Vactan, Jenolite, etc) and if you have access to a compressor you could try a 'spot blaster' which is a grit blasting attachment with a limited area of coverage and a grit collection shroud. Once the surface is ready, paint it. It will rust very quickly if blasted, so plan to cover it soon after.
Paul's Nulife4-2
Touching up doesn't take that long, especially if done on a nice clear warm day, Wash and Degrease the area, Tape it off, then Sand, Clean,Treat, Prime, and coat up remember it's often better to put several thin coats on, than one or two thick ones !. https://www.dropbox.com/s/johnqs5xuwivpid/IMAG0234.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/z9rbagi1qen37ge/IMAG0235.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/r4apg32v9veiok3/IMAG0251.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/37r0j5kz9gm5h1w/IMAG0247.jpg?dl=0 https://www.dropbox.com/s/np2z4zmyayi3ret/IMAG0253.jpg?dl=0 All done in a few hrs, one summers day. Good luck

Neil2
If you can get down to bare metal all well and good, but it could be a lot of work/time. You can spend a lot of time rubbing down and restoring paintwork on a nice summers day, I'd rather be cruising. I don't use rust converters anymore there isn't really an effective one on the market these days, in my opinion, there are those on here who disagree. The only product I found that actually worked was Trustan 23 and it disappeared from the market some time ago. The most practical way of dealing with surface rust I have found is rub it down as best you can then paint over it with Owatrol oil. Owatrol purges any moisture from the remaining rust and seals it. You can paint over this and the rust will not reappear.
