Hello,

We are having a sailaway built and it will hopefully be ready for the beginning of March. The only problem is the expense of having it delivered on a lorry from Droitwich to Whilton marina. Does any one have any experience of hiring people to drive the boat from one location to another? I have found a couple of these services on the internet, but don't know wether to trust them or not. Would anyone be able to recommend anybody?

Thanks in advance!

I recommend "ME" I'll take a week or three off work and move your boat for you. You can trust me, i'm telling the absolute truth when i say i've never driven anything that big but i promise to try to keep the number of things i bouce it off to an absolute minimum <_<

ahh ok, i see the flaw in my marketing strategy. move along nothing to see here.

Why dont you weekend it down to Whilton ? I will be in the area at the beginning of march and probably spare some time to help you up the locks at Tardebigge and Astwood if you need some help.

You should try and move it yourself. I have just moved mine from Berkhamsted to Norbury Junction using weekends and some holiday.

A big adventure and loads of experienced gained.

Thanks for your responses, especially Fuzzyducks offer :-)

I would love to move it ourselves but I've been told it will take about 50 hours from Droitwich to Whilton, which means taking a week off work. As we are doing it up, i will need all the holidays I can salvage for this project.

Whatever you do, put lots of fenders around her.

We had a wide beam community boat delivered from Birmingham way down to the Stort, straight from the yard. The boat didn't have any fenders or fender eyes. By the time, she got to her base to start work, the blacking was looking a bit tatty.

Hi,

i would be more than glad to move the boat for you. If you can phone me, I will give you a very competive quote, which will include, insurance, break down ( it happens with new boats! ) and a un biased oppinion of your boat. Apart from lock wear on your rubbing straiks, your boat will get delivered without a sctratch. Can e-mail references if required. I usually save you the cost of crainage both ends.

I think the experience of moving it yourself is a great one. You are bound to get a few scratches in the locks but that is all part of the learning curve. Lots of double locks on the GU and if your the only boat then take care to use only one set of gates for filling.

Its a great way to find out how your boat handles and will be an adventure.

I totally agree, but some folk havn't got the time or are a bit nervous of there first trip being a long haul, thats where I come in, not a bad way to earn your pennys! beats my old day job.

Yes I know what you mean about Daunting. We first bought Tafelberg in Uxbridge, thats 32 miles away from Chertsey.

Now ofcourse we feel confident having been on it for 9 months.
