Wolverhampton Top Lock

Featured Posts

The sun was shining yesterday afternoon on a very tranquil canal at Wolverhampton. At three o'clock not a boat was moving, although a couple had come up the locks earlier. One of the boats had moored up and the lady on board had got off to walk her dogs. On her return she found some person had untied her ropes. Concerned she and another pulled around to moor up alongside Barnet.

It must be a worry to any person who travels along the BCN to find a safe mooring for their craft. Despite the improvement of towing paths and the general canalside, Wolverhampton lacks proper and proper visitor moorings, which is a pity because the city centre and shops are close by and there are a number of public houses there worth a visit.

Those who pass through the tunnel that supports the entrance to the station might find safe havens if a sensible development incorporated the remaining heritage structures. Using the former arms to Nortons Mill , the Railway Basin or Cranes Foundry all provide possible sites that might also be made secure for both residential and visitor moorings. Is it beyond the ability of CRT to even consider a scheme ? or will boaters plan their journey to avoid Wolverhampton, rushing through to other moorings?

Meanwhile the only regular residents at Wolverhampton top lock moorings are the Canada Geese!
