lee b
Interesting as I certainly could imagine the old bitumen could contain asbestos. The modern lecol 5500 certainly should not, I would hope. I have removed one roof of a kitchen that was corrugated white asbestos/cement and wetted it and cut the fixings. It then went to a specialist for disposal. I took the sheets off in one piece and kept them well wet. This was 15 years ago. The best I ever saw though was at a tip (dechetterie) In Normandy France where a customer was asked to smash it up to fit it into a blue drum!! James shifted more asbestos concrete roofing than you could imagine...roofs after roofs of the stuff...i lived in france for 6years and at least they have a asbestos inspection by law on all houses sold...but they can only put down what they can see, chimney flues, roofs, floor tiles,etc...i pulled out a kitchen over their and low and behold a big sheet of blue asbestos was hiding behind a partition...but when you think about it most of us had asbestos in our houses in the simplest of forms in the 50's 60's 70's and 80's....oven gloves...ironing boards...fire blankets....gas fire brickets....artex has shit loads in it....floor lino... even carpet underlay can contain it...frightening !!! shifted more asbestos concrete roofing than you could imagine...roofs after roofs of the stuff...i lived in france for 6years and at least they have a asbestos inspection by law on all houses sold...but they can only put down what they can see, chimney flues, roofs, floor tiles,etc...i pulled out a kitchen over their and low and behold a big sheet of blue asbestos was hiding behind a partition...but when you think about it most of us had asbestos in our houses in the simplest of forms in the 50's 60's 70's and 80's....oven gloves...ironing boards...fire blankets....gas fire brickets....artex has shit loads in it....floor lino... even carpet underlay can contain it...frightening !!! ps...can you remember the blue asbestos sheets all schools had under bunson burners in science labs ? canals are us?
Lovely floor James Thanks, I'm well pleased with it. I could too wish we had seen a boat like this when we were looking for a boa4 it's lovely Thanks. I feel very lucky to find my new home after just 7 viewings. When I viewed it I thought "this is the one" Now put my stamp on it. Floor, steps, new stove with backboiler. I liked the character of the boat. I was living with Grandparents and it's my very first home. So far I find it great and very cosy in winter since I installed my new stove. Plan to take my Sister and Grandparents out for a little cruise the weekend. I'm moored in a Marina so looking forward to getting out for a day! James Edited July 2, 2013 by canals are us?
