Also, we understand that all the lock chambers in the arm have to be left empty to avoid leakage ???
alan_fincher
Can somebody confirm that Lock No.1 on the arm is being padlocked from 1800 until 0800 the next morning to conserve water ?? Also, we understand that all the lock chambers in the arm have to be left empty to avoid leakage ??? No, it's worse than that, I believe.... Unless you can claim "essential passage", you can't go down there..... Here is the stoppage notice.... ----------------------------------------------- Stoppage: Lock 1 - Aylesbury Canal Basin Aylesbury Arm - Lock 1 Marsworth to Aylesbury Basin The Aylesbury Arm will be closed to all navigation EXCEPT ESSENTIAL BOOKED PASSAGE To book passage, please telephone 01908 302546 (Enquiries: 01908 302500) ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Note that if in this area, the restrictions at Marsworth and Dudswell for Blue Green Algae will also possibly affect you.... ---------------------------------------------------------- Restriction: Lock 39 - Lock 47, Dudswell Lock Marsworth Flight (Locks 39 to 45) to Dudswell Lock 47 The above locks will be closed to navigation between the hours of 4.00pm and 10.00am on a daily basis. These restrictions have been introduced as part of efforts to conserve water following recent problems with naturally occuring blue-green algae which is preventing water being pumped from Marsworth, Tringford and Startops reservoirs. (Enquiries: 01908 302500) ------------------------------- Finally, I notice that the canal is also temporarily closed at Stoke Bruerne. What with the closure at Stoke Hammond (because it was a crime scene in a murder) as well during the last few days, I consider we have been quite lucky to do Branston to Tring Summit in under 3 days !!!!! ---------------------------------------------------------------- Stoppage: Stoke Bruerne The Grand Union Canal has temporarily been closed to navigation while emergency repairs are carried out on Lock 15 at Stoke Bruerne. (Enquiries: 01908 302500) ----------------------------------------------------------------------- I was told a few days ago that for some reason Canalphone failed to tell you about the latest GU restrictions, but can't confirm that, as have not tried it myself............. Tommo
Can somebody confirm that Lock No.1 on the arm is being padlocked from 1800 until 0800 the next morning to conserve water ?? Also, we understand that all the lock chambers in the arm have to be left empty to avoid leakage ??? Alan is quite right, you must book a passage and they want to know the reason you want to go. I went down on Saturday morning, we had a passage booked for 10am but were locked through at about 9.15 and had a very pleasant trip down to the basin with no other boats about. Spent Friday evening and overnight at Marsworth with the boat tied against the top gate. There are about 4 or 5 locks that normally have to be left empty with a bottom paddle raised, “due to leakage through the lock wall”, although on this trip we were asked to leave every lock except 12 and 13 with a bottom paddle raised. Don’t forget you need a BW key on locks14 and 15. Tommo
Pandora
Thanks everybody. Will probably give it a miss - sounds too stressful. Will probably head South instead.
