I'd missed you'd posted this Neil - thanks, an excellent picture.

 

ed - is that date of 93 correct though??

 

The breach was in 88......unsure.png

 

What is striking about that picture is the difference in depth between the old lock and the new. The new lock of course replaced two hence the difference.

Old lock remained in use long after the breach, the breach being on the river rather than canal. I seem to recall that there was a length of piling, all at different heights, at some point on the canal near the lock, presumably to make sure the canal didn't go the same way as the river.

Cheers, I'd (wrongly) assumed it was abandoned immediately afterwards....
