bizzard
I agree, All my Rileys were pre 1951, and although under the Nuffield wing by then, they were still fairly autonomous and were the last real Rileys to be manufactured. God, I am beginning to get nostalgic, but I cannot afford one thease days. Way back in 1962,i think it was, when i was an apprentice,The MOT had only just been introduced,in those days a mechanic mot'd the vehicles, not necessarily with any qualifications, just so many years of experience. Anyway we had this Riley 2.5 litre on the ramp.I was on board rocking the steering ect.And when asked by Tom who was testing it asked me to put pressure on the brake pedal to check for leaks in the hydraulics.Suddenly shouted, jump down here and look at this.At some stage the front to rear hydraulic metal pipe had sprung a leak, caused by rust, and someone had cut the rusted bit out and bridged the gap with plastic petrol hose.I thought the pedal was a bit spongy, the plastic hose was expanding like a balloon when the brake was applied.Needless to say it failed, and a RED failure ticket issued. bizzard
