Longford Lock Staffs & Worcs closure

We have come through this lock this morning but suspect we might be the last boat to come up it until the problem there has been fixed. The word on the grapevine is that BW will close it tomorrow for repairs but I have no idea how long those repairs might take so anyone planning on using this route might want to check with BW for more news.

The bottom lock gate has a significant leakage between gate and wall meaning that the lock is emptying almost faster than it can be filled. The result means the pound above the lock is seriously low - we only just manged to get over the cill as we came out the lock. We are aware of another four boats who were all trying to get down the lock before BW close it completeley even though boats moored in the pound above are already aground!

We let a couple of locks full of water through from above and when you go up another lock the pound there is full and overflowing thanks to this mornings heavy rain but there is a possibility depending how long repairs take this could cause disruption for a lot of people planning to use the route for the bank holiday week.

paddles have been chained and locked by b/w.there are several boats waiting to go through and are hoping the repairs

will be completed tomorrow.
