The Ashby canal

Featured Posts

Its the only canal you have to think about mooring on, most of the time you cant get anywhere near the bank.

I take it you have never done the Leeds & Liverpool between Nelson and Shipley - there are huge sections of that were you can't get near the bank in a 'normal' flat bottomed narrow boat - a plank there is essential as well as long legs to get ashore in the first place.

A vee/curved shaped hull as per the boats that originally travelled there stands a much better chance.

- and I'm not moaning either as the L&L is beautiful along those sections and still very much worth visiting by boat, or at least it will be when it re-opens!!

My Springer had no trouble with the Ashby, but even so our progress was smoother on the Coventry in comparison.

Gary and Sue are fine, and gave us some homemade jam!

Do they know they're famous?!! We should start taking presents to them!
