Renaissence Marine

Featured Posts

Hi,

I've been looking at sailaways (among other things) and have come across one being sold through Boat finder Broakerage in Cheshire. Their information says that these boats are made by Renaissance Marine... but when I've googled them the only relevant links I get an american company or the apollo duck link to the boat I'm already looking at! I know boat finder seem to have a lot of names, I'm assuming that they've taken over a fair few companies, but I'm a little baffled by this....

Does anyone know anything about them?

Thanks,

Kate

That's the address of quite a few firms...

We were stung by a building company that we were working for last year that had lots of different names, the named bit that was supposed to be paying us (and many many more people) went bancrupt.. but the company's still going under so many other names!

Hence my concern!

edit... Sorry, I'm Not implying that this company is dodgy!! Just telling you why I'm wary if that makes sence! (K)

I understand from the towpath telegraph that Renaissance Marine were a "super group" of boat building personalities. The builders and fitters were generally from the London area: Leonard of Finchley, Chris from Marlow and Mike of the Angel, although latterly joined by Bill from the Avon, while some of the basic design work was by Nick the Macc.

Oh sorry, wrong Renaissance...

You've got me confused too, which doesn't take much. Are you saying boat finder brokerage trades under lots of names or that they sell lots of different makes of boats?

Is the boat you like already built or are you having to wait for it?

 Sorry!

The name 'Boatfinder Broakerage service' seems to advertise as lots of different groups... For example The Northwich boat company is at the same address and phone number... there's been a couple of others too the names of them escape my memory at the mo though.

If you look into what they offer to people who want to sell through them they sell themselves on the fact that you continue looking after your boat whilst they advertise it, but on ringing them up as a potential buyer interested in looking around 3 or 4 of the boats they had advertised they didn't have any there! They have to get the boats brought to them and let you know when they'll be there so that you can view them then!

 It's all left me a little confused!

Still, the boat we really like is on sale through someone else and if that's still up for sale by the time our house has sold (how Soulgirl sold hers so quick is a wonder, maybe she can give me some tips!!) hopefully they'll take less money for it!

Unlike many other brokers who may have the boats on their premises Boatfinder specialise in selling boats from the owners moorings, CCers etc, or in the case of the boat you've seen directly from the builders.

This is what their site says.

Based in Cheshire, UK we are the only specialists dealing with narrowboats for sale and canal boat sales located anywhere in the UK.

Our service is designed to sell Inland Waterways craft, narrowboats, wide beam boats and canal boats from their home moorings or whilst out cruising. Our DVD service is unique and helps buyers and sellers to save time and money.

I don't know these people, but it isn't unusal for several boat based businesses to be at the same address, particularly if its a large site where they may be many allied trades.

Only begin to get concerned when someone asks for money - especially if its upfront.

Thanks, having not bought a boat before I don't know much about broakers, so it's good to be reassured especially as I'll be handing over a conciderable amount of money to one in the near future!
