Keeping Up
There's not a lot at Whilton itself (it's noisy from the railway and the motorway and it doesn't have a pub) but the countryside south of there is very pretty. Weedon is worth a visit (the old village near the church I mean, not the area around the A5 crossroads) as is Bugbrooke, and you should have plenty of time to go through the tunnel at Blisworth to Stoke Bruerne before turning round and returning. Snow and ice permitting, it would be an excellent trip.
SteveE
If you're not first timers you could look at www.braidbarboats.co.uk. The North Macclesfield and the peak Forest canals are lovely, and no locks. SteveE
