I have just bought a new fuel filter but it is not what I expected. It is a delphi filter HDF901. This is a lucas type filter and i do not know if this is correct.

If anyone has this engine and could let me know if this is the correct type for the engine it would be greatly appreciated.

Hi Tim

Barrus package the HDF901 as their part No RDG3026. If the Barrus part No matches the one in your handbook its the right filter.

Later shire 35 engines use an RDG2238, but unfortunetley I don't have a cross reference for it.

Thanks, that is what the people at Hurley Engine Services (who were very helpful) said. I am more confused than i was before having popped down into the engine bay this morning. There does not appear to be a fuel filter. The fuel line runs uninterupted into the eingine, this cannot be good practice so i guess that i shall have to buy a cav filter unit. If i posted a pic do you think that you could help out a bit more?

Hi Tim

There is probably a secondary filter close to, or in, the lift pump. Barrus list a Yanmar part no 119802-55800 for this filter. A photo of the instalation will certainly get you a few more postings.

Tony Brooks has many postings on the subject of adequate filtration.

Try looking for filter specialists in Yellow pages if you have difficulty finding the Yanmar filter.
