Applying for license soon

Hiya,

Having just bought a very knackered Broads Cruiser, we are in the process of getting safety cert, insurance etc, etc, eventually culminating in getting our licence and actually boating somewhere.

The thing is, do I have to pay for a licence (BW Gold) for the whole year, even though I've just bought the boat?

Seems a bit mean, as it means paying £100-200 for months when I didn't own a boat!!

Also, I will be a genuine continuous cruiser until this winter, when I will take a mooring after having a bit of a sniff around the greater London network for a place we like. Then we will probably have to take a 'blinds eye' mooring or a non-res and just stay away from it - seems to be the only way in London (that will probably open a right can of worms!!) as we are going to be liveaboards.

Would it be better to acually apply for a CC licence and have the fun of proving this to BW, or would I be better off just naming the mooring (on the Severn - you see why I'm going to be cruising for a good few months!!) that the boat is currently on?

Thanks for any help and I hope this doesn't get any backs up - not intended, but London moorings and CC'ing always seem to stir up a bit of bother...
