Anyone been through recently? I rang C&RT and pointed out that if passage is only at 10am there's not enough time to get to Wigan bottom by 12 noon and asked if they might consider extending the last passage time by an hour. Don't hold your breath.

Due to damage to the bridge deck on Plank Lane Lift Bridge on the Leigh Branch of the Leeds and Liverpool Canal, we need to reduce the operation of the bridge to allow our teams to install a road plate that will protect the bridge from further damage.

To ensure the bridge operates safely, our teams will need to remove the plate to allow boats to pass. We plan to do this daily at 10 am. We request that boats wishing to pass through the bridge are ready to travel at this time.

The required repairs will involve specialist fabricators working on-site, and we are currently working with our contractors to design the necessary repair.

A further update will be provided by 13th August.

C&RT have wedged a block of wood in the hole. The plate isn't used and stored at the roadside as it's just a heavy rubber affair so gets moved around by the traffic. Absolutely over reactive management as there's no logical reason to impose a restriction on boats. Even 10am passage is nonsense. 3pm would make more sense as it would allow boats coming down Wigan flight to get through and allow those intending to go up an early start the following day. With all the issues on the flight,12noon last passage is doable but difficult to achieve in 5 hours.
