Byeckerslike
what do you want, more fuel at cheaper prices? the long prophesised oil shortage has finally arrived, after about 30 years of warnings. the estimated known and unknown reserves of oil are now dropping for the first time. unfortunately the demand is growing faster than ever. we are living in never-never land, but it can't last. you have always paid duty on fuel, but the current price increases reflect the rising world price of crude oil. market forces apply. any demonstration not to buy fuel because it costs more than £1 a litre is daft, unless the campaign is extended to be about not using oil-based fossil fuels at all, and changing to some other source. I agree with your logic, but the snag is that oil prices are based on the once almighty Dollar, and that is now at it's lowest Dollar/Pound Sterling exchange rate for many years, so on that basis, fuel prices should be much cheeper!
