Popular Post Pluto
Sam Yates, who died last week, was the last boat builder and painter to serve his time at a boatyard on the L&LC - at Hodsons of Whitebirk in the late 1940s. I first met Sam at a heritage boat event at Blackburn in 1993, and we subsequently produced a book about the traditional L&LC style of painting. Sam was always happy to share his knowledge, and we have several items made and painted by him on board the L&LC Society's boat Kennet. Sam was a real gentleman and a consummate craftsman.
