Llangollen advice please

HI

We are thinking of going up the feeder arm into Llangollen next week. Even though we moor on the canal we have always winded at Trevor. We have a fairly deep draft 2'10ish and do scrape along in places getting there.

We don't want to get stuck and have to reverse all the way out nor do we really want to scrape our backside!

Any advice? Anyone done it with a deeper drafted boat?

Also are the visitor moorings open? Can you still have electricity at this time of year?

Thanks

Jacqui

It depends how much water is coming down from the Dee . At 2ft 10 you will struggle but should get there in the end . You will probably be able to use the visitor moorings but as Mike and Aubrey (the basin attendants) will have finished for the season , the electric is probably turned off. May be worth giving Howard Griffiths - the canal supervisor at Ellesmere a ring to find out.

We did the Llangollen last winter, our draught is only 2 foot, we touched bottom on two occasions once just about half a mile out of trevor on open section of canal, try to keep as much in the centre as possible, the other time was at the entrance to the very narrow section just before the first online public moorings - it was pretty silted up at the time so may have improved. The electric is turned off in the new basin over the winter months becuase there is no one there to rob you (sorry take your mooring fee) but the vistors moorings in the town have electric posts and you can get a card from the diy shop in the town. This is a great time to do this trip as when we were on it there was very little boat traffic. You can still use the new basin in the winter, when we were there we were on our own - seemed such a waste - BW could turn it into winter moorings with a bit of planning - Still Hey Ho
