Can anyone recommend, from experience, a mobile engineer that can carry out mechanical and electrical works, servicing, maintenance to a boat in/near the Napton/Braunston area? Our boat currently has a fault with the water pump, bow thruster and internal light switching/wiring.

Hi Guys, my brother just bought a beautiful Dutch motor yacht (not technically a barge, as she was built as a pleasure yacht about 90 years ago) He is currently moored near Runnymead and needing some help. Originally I was going to be helping him with the delivery from Holland, and installing the 240v system, (I am a superyacht captain with a fair bit of practical knowledge, having also worked as an engineer.) Unfortunately due to various delays this didn't happen, and friends of mine were able to help him bring her across from Holland instead. Anyway, he now needs to find someone to help finish the electrics aboard, and also a few other things to get her to pass the BSS inspection, such as possibly new fuel lines, and finishing the install of his Refleks diesel heater etc. If you know of someone who is in this area who might be suitable to help with this work and who doesn't charge like a wounded bull! If he needs to pay usual per hour rates from a shipyard then I am sure he can't afford it, but perhaps there is someone living on a boat near by, who would appreciate the work and be able to help out? If you have any ideas please let me know, I would love to help him but unfortunately can't at the moment due to my other commitments. He is incredibly busy and although very practical himself has to focus on his work at the moment. Many thanks Cameron

My Lister 2 cylinder wc engine has been diagnosed as having a faulty water pump as well as requires new hosing for the cooling system (header tank filled). I am having real problems getting an engineer to come out to do the work. Can anyone recommend an engineer that is happy to work in London. I am moored in E5, close to Springfield Park. Many thanks in advance.

Hi, Anyone with experience of working with boat engines please can we have some advice?! Have just bought a narrowboat and trying to work out if we need to replace the engine or if its repairable- I've attached a photo below of the problem- it has a hole in the crank casing. If it needs replacing does anyone know where we can source a suitable engine for a 57' on a tight budget. Seen calcutt prices and theyre way out of our league. Thanks for your help, Imogen and Staszek

Hi Can anyone recommend a suitable engineer/mechanic who could help us rebuild/overhaul our Lister HR2 air-cooled twin-cylinder engine - preferably in situ in our Northwich? We are in N London, based on the Regents Canal, but would move her to the right person for the job. We are a charity running a community boat. Thanks in anticipation. Tony

Hallo, We are renovating currently and in dire need of replacing the gas pipework. The current stuff has been removed but it was soldered together (!!). We have all the new pipework but just need someone qualified to fit it together, hook up our boiler and possibly convert our range to LPG (currently natural gas), although we could do this ourselves and can live without the oven for now if necessary. I'm aware there are a few threads on this topic but they're quite out of date. Cheers!
