Many of you will be aware that there has been a wish to reopen the Bridgewater canal link to the Manchester Ship Canal, for a very long time. Not much more than a dream...till now! The demolition of the silver Jubilee Bridge approach road has made the dream a reality. Outline planning permission has been applied for and a consultation process begun. We plan a lift, some traditional locks and an inclined plane, along with visitors centre etc. If you visit Runcorn Locks Restoration Society website, you will find links to a leaflet, explaining the project and also a link to a survey. http://unlockruncorn.org/ We would like to hear the opinions of boaters aswell as local residents so please will you have a look and fill in the survey online. For those of you who are local, there will be an opportunity to find out more by attending our open day on Monday 31st August. 11.00-2.00, at Percival lane, Runcorn, WA7 4UY, where there will be guided walks of the project area. For further updates, we are on facebook too. https://www.facebook.com/groups/unlockruncornsupporters

Hi I'm coming up the Trent and Mersey heading for Lancashire. Going on Bridgewater Canal and Leigh Branch. Can anybody suggest good sites to moor when in the more built up areas around Manchester and Wigan ? Many thanks Mike

Hi everyone, I have enjoyed reading through posts here in the past, but this is my first ever post! Can anyone suggest some residential moorings in the Greater Manchester region? My wife and I are relocating from Canada to Manchester next Spring, and having previously lived on the Norfolk Broads, we'd love a similar lifestyle in Manchester. It is a little difficult planning things on the other side of the world, but we are coming over at the end of the month and we would like to visit some moorings. Any help/thoughts would be much appreciated! Ben

Hello, Totally new to boating and looking for a permanent (non residential) mooring on the Bridgewater Canal (preferably close to Manchester) but can't find any information. Have been unable to get a response from bridgewatercanal@peel.co.uk and wondered what everyone else's experience was? Is it usual to have trouble gaining info about this sort of thing? Have seen mwebb@peel.co.uk suggested many times, but he has now retired. Finding it very frustrating. Thanks in advance for any help or advice, it would be very gratefully received! Amelia
