  1. I have been gently reminded by Rose of this event and as life is a bit hectic just now it was a good and timely reminder. I will be on my own and do not know anyone personally so feel a small bit .... something.... about coming. But I am going to come subject to booking a room, probably in the Premier Inn. I am looking forward to meeting people whose names online are very familiar to me. So please count me in!
  2. Ok food eaten and battery charger checked. It is a Sterling Marine Power 4 stage charger. I have read the small print on the charger and I understand it a bit better now that I have read the replies on here. Once again thank you so much for helping me. I have never asked a question on here and not been helped. Ok I may have been teased a bit and given a bit of 'stick' but nothing more than friendly banter. I am learning every day to manage the boat alone and the journey from the K and A up to Cheshire (some by me some by wonderful helpers when I had to work) was a journey never to be forgotten, a learning curve and a half. Again, thanks x
  3. It could very well be, Roger. I am actually thinking about it in a serious way. I am trying to make my very stressful life less so. I do not worry unuly about the toilet I just roll my sleeves up (actually and psychologically) but maybe the time has come...
  4. OOPs sorry about the batter typo, probably because I was hungry. I am eating egg on toast as I type so will go and look at the battery charger as soon as I have eaten. It is a 'proper' one though.
  5. I have always charged my batteries by running my engine for a couple of hours after work each evening. I am now on a mooring with a hook up which runs my 240 stuff. My problem is my battery charger. I don't know how long I ought to have it switched on for. Will it do any harm if I leave it on for too long? Will it 'overcharge' my batteries? I am sure I will get used to all this (it is only my third day) but I could do with pointing in the right direction. Thanks everyone.
  6. Thank you everyone. I keep thinking it is ok then it goes again. I am even thinking of a cassette. Or a bucket..... or hanging out of the hatch and showing a full moon over Cheshire. Maybe that is just a step too far .... the new people around my new mooring do not seem to have done anything to deserve that... but sometimes I feel just a little frustrated!
  7. Thanks again everyone. I have not been around for a while so not posted. The toilet has now stopped backing up but is not flushing. Ah the joys...... At least I know what I have to do. Dinner first I think.
  8. Thank you everyone. I will look at all these suggestions when I get to my new mooring and get it sorted. As for my forum name... Hmmmm Nasty Water Woman sounds good. I could be called 'how many times can I take the toilet apart and still smile through gritted teeth Woman' But a cassette? I like the idea of a 'proper' toilet, but I could be swayed I think. Of course a nice long debate on the pros/cons may be due!! About the limescale, I am always worried about putting anything down the toilet that may perish the rubber bits or harm the plastic. Is the stuff used for kettles ok? Would it be ok to put hot water down?
  9. My mascarator is flushing it all away, liquids and solids no problem (there have been a million problems at different times, I know the inside of that toilet better than I know the back of my hand) but what is happening this time is that the liquid is coming back. After a while there is a bubbling and a gurgling and the next thing you know the bowl is half full of.... well, nasty water. I have worked out that if you don't leave anything at all in the bowl (water/pee etc) it is much less likely to do it. Is it the one way valve maybe? The boat is on the move over the next few days without me and once I get to my new home I will have to strip it down yet again and have a good look. But does anyone have any ideas? I love my mascerator until it all hits the fan. cheers.
  10. That is a very valid point. I am a self-confessed poor tyer upper. I have started to do the triangular spring type thing to stop the movement and am getting better. It makes a huge difference to the way boats pass me!!

  12. I don't 'know' either of you but being a Cheshire woman myself (and currently wending my way back up there) I always notice Cheshire Rose anyway. Congratulations to you both. May your roof never fall in and those beneath it never fall out. x

  14. Thank you both. I will do a mixture of giving them the print out to remind them and do simple instruction thing. I think maybe because I am so new to being in charge of it all I am a bit ... wary. My husband always implied that his part of standing on the back looking beautiful was beyond mere women. Now that I realise that he only used his hands to steer in the same way that I can I am much happier ... much more confident and very happy to be on my own. Probably much more than I planned to write then but in my defence I am watching a tv programme about porn and the sex noises are distracting me!! Also, every time I read a post from you I can hear 'Life's a long song' in my head for hours.. lovely
  15. This thread has got me thinking. I am going to be having a few crew members who have had little or no experience with locks and I will be steering on my journey towards Cheshire. I will talk them through locks and do a couple with them but do you know of anything I can print off re locking up and locking down that will act as guides for them to look at now and then? Or am I over worrying. I have done so many locks myself that I believe the person doing the lock has more to do than open the gates. Any ideas of what I could print off for my inexperienced crew members?
  16. I have no techincal reasons to offer but mine sometimes does that and what I do is hold the knob in and twist it back and forth a bit so then let it come out as normal and it stays on. As I said, this has no basis in reasoning but it works for me! WW
  17. Thank you everyone. The weekend thing sounds a plan and then see how I go. I am still looking at the option of a couple of friends breaking the back of it once I get a bit far to come back for work. I would love to do it in one hit but I will need some time off before I start my new job up there. I am excited by the prospect of a bit of a mix n match journey with various crew members hopping on and off!!
  18. I wonder if I can pick the brains and ideas of others yet again. I need to move my boat from the K and A to the Shroppie in a few weeks time. I have tried to get time off work to do it myself but this is looking less and less likely. I have looked at pulling her out of the water and moving her by road... very expensive. I have spoken to a couple of professional boat movers who would charge me as much as going by road. I have a friend or two who have said they may be able to do it for me but they are not that experienced and...well, I don't know if that is a plan. The trip is going to take the best part of three weeks. Has anyone got any thoughts? Feel free to PM me. thanks
  19. My mum used to take those pills... we callled them 'blue wee tablets'!!
  20. I know that I dont actually know any of you personally (except Bones, we have a 'leg' connection) but it may be that I can can get there too, would that be ok?
  21. Oh yes Vesta. I remember now. It tasted dried but boy did we think it was cosmopolitan. I can remember my first garlic bread eaten at an Italian place when I was a teenager. I was sick all night and would not eat garlic for years. I would not admit, even to myself, that it was the lager what done it!!! I must stop posting on this thread I am in danger of boring even myself. WW Edited to make it almost make sense
  22. I would maybe like an avator, but I have no idea how to put one on. I am on another forum and someone helped me with that but I cannot remember how. Any tips please?
  23. Dr Finlays Casebook The Anderton Boat lift where we used to play before it became a tourist attraction Very small boxes of Daz Being told 'don't touch the back of the tv' - I am still not sure why but my mother was obsessed once we got one Ripping out beautiful old fireplaces to put e'lectric bars in their place Coming home from playing in the woods with armfulls of bluebells for mum Five butchers in the village which now has just one Sitting on my left hand all day other than playtime to prevent me from writing left-handed (how barbaric!) Watching the 'bargees' go past on the canal and being fascinated by how people lived on a boat (I know now) A time when bathing every day was not the 'norm' and no-one died from anything horrible because of it The epilogue Being very sophisticated and eating dried packet curry (cannot remember the name but I am sure someone will oblige) I could go on!

    Urinal

Once summer comes I would be happy for you all to come and pee in the K and A to add to the water depth and stop so much running aground!! Or would that make BW even less likely to keep pumps pumping and locks tight?
