  1. I paid about £550 for my inspection and RCD certification and paperwork that comes with it.He was a very helpfull chap and told me to make a few small alterations to vent hole size and a few other bits. I emailed photos of the changes and all was well.Build to the BSS standards like you say and your definitely on the right track.
  2. I completed my first fitout on a sailaway almost 2 years ago.Prior to that I had not a clue about most of what I had to do and remembering the feeling of fear and dread of the unknown as I stood inside the empty sailaway wondering how to batten it out ready for the spray foamers. But with the internet available and plenty of thinking time I managed a modest fitout. It can be seen on youtube under my account 'narrowboatmike' living on a narrowboat. I sold that first boat and about to take delivery of my 2nd sailaway.I hope to complete this one by early next spring and then after selling it have a go at a widebeam.Good luck with your build.Your sure to learn a whole bunch of new skills and knowledge along the way.If Feel free to ask as many questions as you need along the way.I will do my best to answer them as im sure many others on this site will too.
  3. I really like your tablet desk.A very functional and attractive piece of furniture.Ideas like that go well with boats both narrow and wide.
  4. I agree with carlt, free food from skips and biffa bins. Theres even a term for it, dumpster diving, I did it for about 6 months whilst living in a house.I even had to get large freezer from free-cycle to store all the food I was getting. Although some of the big supermarkets are impossible, smaller ones like spar morrisons and the co-op can be quite good if you check them out each day.Red biffa bins at hte back of small shops and bakers are a good sign and if there locked you can always buy a universal key off ebay which fits them.
  5. Thanks Jim, is it 'safe' to moor up overnight at piccadilly basin as this seems the best bet after sailing up from Lymm then hopefully after mooring at piccadilly basin on up to The Rose of Lancaster the following day.
  6. Thanks, just realised about the stoppages. Looking forward to it. Lived aboard my previous boat and slowly fitted it out over 2 years but never sailed much, about 15 miles, so this one a bit of an adventure, better start exercising for those stiff LOCKS.
  7. Thanks Richard, that's good news .Fortunatley not going as far as Tuel lane as parking up at marina in Todmorden to fit boat out.
  8. It on the bridgewater canal and then on to the Rochdale canal where normally you would have to book at 2 different places along route. However I have heard that this may have changed and no booking is necessary. But just trying to make sure.Guess ive plenty of time to contact the recipients of my waterways license.
  9. I'm sailing from Lyme to Todmorden with my second sailaway, the first one came by road a few years ago. ive heard that I no longer need to book to have locks opened etc.Does anyone know for certain? I will be travelling some time in February, many thanks , Mick. Sailing in March not Feb, forgot about stoppages.
  10. Thanks for all the advice, ive now got a few tel numbers to call and hopefully get it sorted.
  11. A surveyer? Thanks Ally I will look some up locally and get a few quotes,Mick.
  12. Thanks Ally, ive tried many times with the search box but nothing comes up,I did find some thing on google though. The building and fitting of the boat are fine and I was aware of the 5 year "rule" with the sale of the narrowboat, however I wasnt expecting to sell it within 5 years, thanks, mick
  13. I am selling my narrowboat,I bought it as a sailaway and ive fitted it out and has a 4 years sefety cert and its under 2 years old,how much does an RCD cost and what are the options for doing it myself.I have someone interested in the boat but the marine mortgage people who they are dealing with want this certificate, thanks, mick.

  18. Thankyou for the info, I better get a bss examiner before my license is due for re-newal,mick.
  19. The boat fitting out in terms of electrics, gas, fire safety, venalation etc is just about finished but I havent done any work in the engine compartment in terms of platforms or protection from the moving parts from the engine(trad style boat).I just assumed this would have to be carried out to get a safety cert, mick.
  20. I bought a sailaway just under a year ago and it isnt quite at the stage to get a safety cert yet.I licensed the boat last year by sending the declaration of conformity to bw.How long is this declaration valid for ? thanks, mick.
  21. I just found a great supplier with with fsd and lpg jets with all its gas cookers and hobs and it in the town im moored in, its called premierange and I found it on ebay, thanks for all your help and support, what a great site this is.
  22. Thanks Chris ,they should do the job providing the price is right, there did nt seem to be any prices on the site, but I will check out the stores that stock that product. They do look good , like you say not cheap, and if I did get one with a fan shurely I could not connect the fan and it would cook like an 'old fashioned gas cooker.. Never thought of ebay, think i'll take a look.
  23. Thanks mike the boiler man,I just dont want a free standing cooker/oven especially now ive bought the unit to house the oven in. Thanks chris,by the way what does baumatic mean? I am still going to try and find a gas oven that will do the job, there must be one somewhere that does nt cost a afortune.
  24. Thanks Kieth I will have a browse through it, mick.
