  1. What a bloody liberty! Well done BW. Can you believe the audacity of some people. It reminds me of a sign that was put up by Weedon boats. I believe it was telling the owners of the new flats opposite, who, presumably had been compaining that, 'if they didn't like the noise from a working boatyard, they should not have bought a flat opposite one'. Fantastic sign. Perhaps we should carry a similar sign on our boat roofs aimed at the obviously well to do yet not boat owners of this house.
  2. I have heard back from Morso. I was right not be too hopeful. The front plate cracks were also down to me. These are caused by one of two things. Overheating or more likely, condensation. This is caused by lighting a fire and then turning down the adjusters and going to bed (doesn't everybody do that). Anyway, I have decided to call it quits as far as Morso are concerned as I refuse to pay their extortionate prices for spare parts and have returned the new backplate and I am going to purchase a new and substantially cheaper stove from another manufacturer. The reasoning is this, if a big brand name stove will not last 10 years, why bother paying over the odds in the 1st place. Not only to buy it, but to maintain it afterwards.
  3. For that sort of money it will be a modified sinewave inverter. I have one of these on my boat. It will run my lcd tv, fridge, microwave and power tools. This is all I care about. It will not run my electric razor or 'er indoors hair straightners. Don't care about the razor (got a beard) don't care about the hair straightners either really. What I am trying to say is somethings work and somethings don't. Either way, you haven't spent much money and most things should be ok. Look at Maplins as well.
  4. Hello Peter, It should be ok, but how is it powered, ie, cigarette lighter or hard wired? If its hard wired then the boat company might get the hump. If is cigarette lighter, is there one available on the boat? Also, what do you want to power in the future. Laptops and electronic equipment lusually ike a pure sinewave. Also some 'normal' equipment with step down transformers will not work with a modified sinewave usually found in the cheaper units.
  5. Right, here's a good idea. You hurry up and do yours then give me a rough idea of how tight you done them. If you should make a mistake, I need a new front plate!!
  6. Hello Stagedamager, Thanks for the reply. The head is indeed 8mm. Then a unthreaded shaft, which probably is corroded, then they appear to widen out to a thread that is as I say, the same size as the 10mm bolts. I have taken onboard the blow torch idea, and if and when I get a new front panel, (anyone got one going cheap), I will remove the last two bolts with that method. Good luck on your restoration. As a matter of interest, when you put new rope in all the joints, how tight do the bolts need to be done up and do you need to glue the rope. I have visions of shearing off the lugs! With my luck, I would not be surprised!
  7. Following on from Morso not honouring their guarantee regarding a cracked backplate. I understand from members that this is a problem with Morso stoves and I reluctantly purchased a new backplate (£108). Following members instructions, I proceeded to remove the stove from the boat, no problem. Got the stove and new backplate home to the garage. Upon dismantling, found that bottom plate is held in with 10mm bolts, dead easy to undo, top plate, however, held in with 8mm bolts. The problem is the 8mm bolts have thin shaft that then enlarges to the same size thread as the 10mm bolts! Are these designed to purposely break or what? They did break, even after loads of WD40! About this time I noticed two further cracks on the front cover where the bolts holding the top are. So far then, new back plate, new front plate, flue collar. It is working out a bit dearer than I thought. I have contacted Morsoe again to ask them if the front plate cracks are also my fault as their 10 year guarantee is still not quite up. I accept that some damage may be due to me lighting fires in it, but Morsoe instructions never said I couldn't light fires. Will post their answer. Not particularly hopeful though.
  8. You haven't messed it up. Mine was the same, it soon beds in. You may have to force it closed at first though.
  9. Taking the stove out altogether seems like the way to go, better still take it home and set to in the garage. I know I might sound a bit thick, but can the flue be removed without major dismantling anyway?
  10. They probably looked fantastic when they were first put in. You could try thoroughly cleaning them and then spray on lacquer that motorcyclists use on their wheels. But lets face it, it will eventually wear off and you will be back to square one. Take them out, get the scrap money for them and put it towards two new ones.
  11. Yes, the whole back section. Thanks for getting back. I do mean the whole back of the stove. I presume the flue has to be removed first to get the top off.
  12. Don't waste your money if you think this will top up your batteries after you have been cruising. The sun will be going down/getting darker. Even if you moor up in sunlight, the small amount of charge a panel will put into the batteries wouldn't light a fag! Great for keeping batteries topped up whilst moored long term, but other than covering your roof in them, not much cop. Plus, if you need to charge your batteries after cruising, you might have a bigger problem with power consumption that a solar panel cannot solve.
  13. Now I have had my request for a replacement backplate under guarantee on my Morso turned down because I was using it wrong, apparently my mistake was to light a fire in it! Has anyone had to replace a back plate (non boiler). If so how do you go about it? I swore I was going to get rid of the stove, but as a new backplate is (only) £80 compared to God knows what for a replacement one, I thought perhaps that would not be too bad if it lasted another 10 years.
  14. Hello Ray, Have you considered one of the air pump drain unblocker things. You place the nozzle over the drain plug, pump up the pressure and then let it go. I have not used one but have seen them work.

I will look into it. Cheers. I agree with you obviously. I have replied but do not hold out any hope. If I challenge them they will just say ok, get it independently tested etc. etc. and then perhaps. . . .Using forums like this is perhaps a better way of showing others that a 10 year guarantee is not really worth the paper it is written on. More importantly, there are cheaper stoves on the market that offer a lifetime guarantee! I only wish I could write a song about it! I agree with you obviously.
