  3. I have tried a few pictures of Three Bridges, and it's hard to show the three transport modes all crossing one another. Have we a drone to hand ?? @Tim Lewis has the picture from the railway. Mine are from the road in 1980 and 1979. Also from an old advert
  4. Ah, yes, Hanwell has locks but no junction: most recent visit there was 2012 after the Pageant. Compare #1769
  5. On this day in 1974 (Warwickshire) River Avon Alveston (or as close as we could get before needing to send a rope to the bank to pull us off)
  6. On this day in 2009. Henhurst Lock, Wigan, L&L BW had adopted a customer service standard of having a lock ladder on each side of wide locks: it's clearly safer that way. To implement the policy across all the single-ladder locks in the Wigan region, management proposed a rolling programme of lock closures starting in the middle of September, rather than alongside works in the the winter works programme. This was not met with any enthusiasm by local navigators, and this sign on the lock nearest the Wigan office was intended to satisfy all parties until the work was fitted-in with other maintenance activities.
  7. On this day 2009 Bridgewater Canal, Stretford and Leigh Branch, by Great Fold Bridge garden display
  8. On this day in 2014 Ferrybridge Power Station A&C Navigation Unloading facilities. Site is now cleared: see the nice Mr Google's aerial picture here Later this day see #1208
  9. On this day 2015 Milton Keynes GUSouth nbAlice and shunt AliceToo. (The sign is advertising craft sales, not the boat)
  10. On this day in 2018 Buckby Locks GUSouth Sadly, it's all too easy to slip into the canal, and even on a warm day (having avoided all the potential disasters of rotating propellors, drowning, sharp underwater debris, crushing by moving boats, caught by rushing water, ...), it can still be difficult to get out again. Fulbourne has space for equipment-storage and this was the first time this ladder had been called on to help someone out of the canal, and on this occasion it was easily long enough for the job. Both boats carried on in our opposite directions with no permanent discomfort afaik.

  12. On this day in 1984 Barbridge Junction SU And earlier, the aqueduct over the upper River Weaver, Middlewich Branch SU. Just the place for a boatlift.
  13. On this day in 2007 Walton Summit Branch L&L Looking across the branch to Johnson's Hillock Bottom Lock Compare #704
