  6. Hi Alan Yep the boat had zinc on, but I had six magnesium put on as soon as we could. It seems as though I done somthing right 1st time thanks col
  7. When having a sea boat I always had to use Antifoul, I imagine all sea boats do. diferent types but antifouling all the same. since being on the canal net work, all boats or more or less all boats use blacking of some sort. now our boat has antifoul on it, and has been in the canal for near on 9 months and not showing any growth on the bottom, where other boats being in the same amount of time has quite a lot. Is it tradition for using blacking or a preferred way, because it seems to be using antifoul is a better product?? so why aren’t newly built canal boats painted with black dark antifoul by choice?? col
  8. Hi Peter As far as I know it was a dawoo doosan L034 with a turbo 120 hp the yard that built the boat built and still do build life boats. col
  9. Mike I totally agree with every posy you put on this thread. And yes that’s me worrying over nothing. engine isn’t even in yet, but regard the last post beta wants £340 for the alternator!! thats why I asking about the 12/24 converter lol but anyways your right, the moment know problems, so I’ve got to stop looking for them i will find out size of prop later on thank you mike col
  10. Yes, I always seem to go down that route, okay will find a alternator sam you are so right! col
  11. Both of you have more greenies now
  12. So I now have an engine, in the work shop it comes with 2 x 12v alternators the engine alternator is okay as I will have a separate engine start battery. but for the domestic 12v alternator is no god as my main boat domestics are all 24v i Carnot oxford a new 24v alternator but on eBay we can buy https://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_odkw=90+hp+beta&_osacat=0&_from=R40&_trksid=p2045573.m570.l1311.R-1.TR8.TRC2.A0.H0.X12v+to+24v.TRS0&_nkw=12v+to+24v+step+up+converter&_sacat=0 just wondered would this be okay to fit between alternator and battery bank?? thanks in advance col
  13. So I have an engine i already have a 4 bladed bronze prop on our 56ft barge. Has anyone got a 90hp or big engine ? so how will the 90hp run with a 4 bladed prop please? col
  14. Okay A update then 90hp engine is in the workshop having a conversion kit from beta fitted to convert from keel cooled to raw water cooled. the kit has cost £1100. so not doing my home work on th skin tank size, and not coming on to the forum sooner, or before I bought the engine has cost a lot more money in the long run. although the engine is in fantastic condition, and will have new parts, but just to say thankyou to peterboat, for the heads up. and forum members for advice. a lesson to be learnt don’t under estimate the amount of keel tank needed. 2 other advice needed on new post lol thankyou all
  15. No lol that’s new, modern stuff. I tried to load it, but too alike texting, so I just txt. anyway Peter the engine was delivered today, all now on a pallet waiting for me to arrange installation. the conversion kit to be ordered on Tuesday, allowing me 2 days to work on the streets again, to get the money lol
  16. Could you send some photos Peter? Please ive got the mucky vids ? lol
  17. Okay this is where we at. we have decided to convert the engine to Raw water cooled had BETA give me a quote for the whole kit needed Please see the list below: Tube stack 209-02846 £400.00 End cap In/out 209-03326 £75.00 End cap return 209-03327 £75.00 2x H/E o-ring 209-00814 £3.73 each Raw water pump 207-01178/01 £266.00 Coolant hose kit £100.00 Water injection bend 202-02458 £41.48 Exhaust 2” gasket 212-09070 £5.00 Anode 209-61840 £9.00 This with discount of 35% plus 20% vat plus labour approx 2 hours labour. the engine turns out to be a 2005, it’s 500 hrs on the clock but have seen video of it running as do beta. the engine has rarely been used in all this time, but ran up at least once a year. engine arrives next week when it will be converted. have to source a 24v alternator so thanks again for the keel tank posts, hope it helps other folks who does not know exactly has much keel tank to have. so soon the boat will have a engine col Davy Way, Waterwells, Quedgeley, Gloucester GB -GL2 2AD Tel: +44 (0)1452 723492 Fax: +44 (0)1452 883742 Registration No. 2114058 VAT No. GB 466 8455 03 email: waynenota@betamarine.co.uk website: www.betamarine.co.uk
  18. Okay. Speaking to the current owner, he him self built hi skin tank it measures 6ft x 1 ft by 2 inches thick. he welded the inside channels direct to the hull and put a lot of channel so the water is pumped arround a lot. after he welded the channels he welded the top on. this was done in the water!!! hes done 400 hrs on the Thames, never had a problem! what you on the forum quoted as square feet, beta,Martin Kiedan all agree with. i must admit Jambo Rafiki had a keel tank, and that had a 50hp, and that tant was no longer than 4ft approx? col
  19. I have tried to put new boat on profile pic, but when I try the file is too big?
  20. I kept watering it, splashing soap on it and it kept growing.
  21. Yes Alan still got all the raw water sea cocks, so no no need to drill holes, got inlet and outlets exhaust col Can’t travel haven’t got a engine! there is a site crane here, but it won’t lift the weight col Crossed over lol same time posting it lol
  22. totaly got this wrong im imagining 1 ft wide, and 22ft long just seems impossible doesn’t it lol so if anyone’s don the opposite with there engine,, and wants to sell me the raw water parts please contact me!!!! all the best col
  23. Thanks all have spoken to keidian Martin, no way he could fit one big enough it will have to be fitted outside £785 for the skin tank 1800 for cranes, plus fitting etc. so have been on to Beta and can convert to raw water, for pump and heat stack(radiator) £700 or at worst £1150 for complete new radiator pump and bits the boat originally is set up for raw water cooled so I’ve done it again Co;
